Kodjia had a nightmare u'23 game the other night and was taken off after 70mins. With Dean Smith watching. Bench at very best for Kodjia in this one.

I would go with;

Steer
Targett
Konsa
Engels
Guilbert

Nkamba
Douglas
Hourihane

Trezuguet
Davis
El Ghazi

Interesting you'd take out Mings rather than Engels? Would keep Mings in as Jimenez is good in the air, would give Bjorn a breather instead.

Maybe give Hause a game aswell as he'll know their team better and Targett might pull up with all the games he's playing.

I think Dean quite likes the right foot/left foot combination at centre back so imagine that both Hause and Konsa will come in there. Imagine he will give Taylor a game as well seeing as you could make a case that he didn’t do much wrong before he was dropped.

I actually think he is quite likely to change the whole back five. And I’m not sure Jimenez will start for them will he?

Real chance of getting into Europe in this cup.  Play full strength until a couple of goals up  - then sub best players.

McGinn definitely needs a break, I'd hope Grealish and him are on the bench anyway. Maybe try Konsa next to Mings, Engels has gone off the boil a bit and hopefully Konsa could put him under pressure .

---------------Steer
Elmo, Konsa, Mings, Hause
------Luiz, Hourihane
Trez, Lansbury, AEG
--------------Davis

Kodjia will be starting.

on the wing I imagine Leeg in support of Davis up top. I haven't been impressed by Trez really though I accept it's still very early. But AEG or Trez on the right and Jimmy on the left wouldn't be the worst set up

I'd like us to be full strength, batter them, get that winning feeling again and maybe go on to win this cup.

Doubt we will though.

Think Smiths more likely to experiment with defence than midfield, but still think he’ll keep Guilbert in to try and counteract pace of Traore who I think will play for them. Also think he’ll play one of McGinn or Grealish (if fit). Smiths said before about treating cups with respect, so I think given that & local derby element, it’ll be strong team despite Liverpool round the corner. Probs way off but I’d guess;
Steer
Guilbert
Targett
Mings
Konsa
Luiz
Hourihane
Trezequet
Davies
McGinn
El Ghazi

I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t see Kodjia much of at all before Xmas and think he’ll be gone in January.

Not in the starting line-up for the U23s this evening.

We'll beat them.

PS Can we not call it the 'EFL Cup' please.  This is not Soccer AM.  It's the League Cup.  Our cup.  Let's not fuck with that.
