Patel isn’t with England. He wanted the role & they wanted him but his visa only allows him to play and not coach.

He was only ever going to play white ball cricket this year and the bowlers have done ok. The problem is with the batting.

Woakes was never going to play and Stone can't be relied on to stay fit so I'm sure that was factored in.  But it's not so much the unavailability as it is that the players coming in to replace them aren't performing.  Bresnan and OHD have taken 27 wickets between them; the other bowlers put together have taken 18 (including 4 by Stone, who only played one match).

But mainly it's the batting that's letting us down.  We've had 1 ton and 2 50s.  Apart from Bresnan, everyone averages under 29.  Bell averages 8.6 and Hain 4.4.

What's happened to Liam Norwell? Injured most of last season. Great debut against Somerset at Taunton.....then missed more than half of the season. I thought he was fit?

Sidelined with a back injury, along with Adam Hose, Olly Stone and Matt Lamb who also miss out. He’s expected to be in contention for the Blast which starts next week.

Yes, I've since read that he got a back spasm picking up his newborn baby!

A good start by the Bears today at Worcester, Rhodes 95 not out & Hain 50 not out. Rob Yates is struggling with opening.....155/1 at tea.

Bess leaving Somerset at the end of the season. Yorkshire and Warwickshire interested.
