'The Hundred' preliminary picks

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/49921009

Quote
England all-rounder Ben Stokes was selected instead of Test captain Joe Root for the Leeds-based Northern Superchargers in The Hundred.

Root will play for the Nottingham-based Trent Rockets, while England fast bowler Jofra Archer will represent Southampton-based Southern Brave.

The eight new teams for next year had the chance to draft England's male red-ball contracted players on Thursday.

Seam bowlers James Anderson and Stuart Broad were not chosen.

So who is going to watch this then? There’s a lot of negative publicity from county members etc and I’m concerned about the potential changes to the schedule that this will cause and this will become clear in November when the fixtures for next season are released.

However whether we like it or want it is irrelevant. It’s happening so I will take the opportunity to watch the best players in the world in a UK competition, some of whom will play in the Birmingham team.

The whole thing is just so badly thought out. Welsh Fire Women are playing their home games at... Bristol and Taunton.

I'm sure those will attract bumper crowds. 😒

If it's on terrestrial telly I'll probably watch bits, but I can't summon up any enthusiasm for it.  The whole thing seems so appalling and ill-conceived that even dressing the players up as packets of crisps doesn't seem that stupid.

Yep, that name seems daft.

Wales & West Fire or Western Fire would work.

I'd have just reused the old Western Storm name for both the men's and women's teams

Or just call them "Glamorgan" and have them play in Cardiff...
