Good luck Dougie and thanks for the memories.
Let’s see how we replace a player with his proven quality

Big test for Monchi.  If both Illing and Enzo turn out to be first teamers than we will have done very well.  If not, £20mish is robbery for a player of Luiz’s quality.

I agree. We’ll see in time. I trust both Emery and Monchi. We’ll get some wrong (and this could be one of them) but as long as we get more right than wrong, that’s ok.

Douglas Luiz on Instagram:

“The time has come to say see you soon, Villa Park. I want to start by thanking everyone (club, players, fans & staff). This was a place where I felt at home — you fans made an impact on my career & you will never be forgotten by me. I will miss you! I hope I made you very proud. You can be sure that I always tried to give my best version — as a player & as a human being. It was 5 years of many joys, celebrations, struggles, learning, games, fun & many other things. Now I will continue my life at another club, but my fans & passion for you will never fade. Thank you for everything Aston Villa.”

It’s a nice message but with most players doing this sort of message when they leave I do wonder how much is planned PR by agent/club and how much is from the heart (not saying it isn’t, just seems everyone does a message about how special it was nowadays)

At least he didn’t say this was his club etc, etc and then p**s off not long after.

Wishing him all the best but apart from the last year or so ( under the auspices of an exceptional manager) he’s been adequate and nothing more prior to that.

Yep. Hence the fee and why Emery allowed him to go.

At his 3rd attempt he got his move away, of course it's just PR bollocks. I wish him well as a person but we move on with players that actually want to be here.

It’s not necessarily PR bollocks. I don’t know the first time you’re referring to, but the second one the circumstances were different. I think the sentiment is perfectly plausible.

If he doesn't want to be here (and her) fuck them off (as we have).

I think Luiz may have gone irrespective of PSR, but the significance of the date indicates it was certainly  in our interests to sell before the end of the month. A few people on here were confident we didn't have to sell before July 1st but that looks well wide of the mark.

You have to also allow for our deal with Chelsea which was a net spend of say £18.5m

Has there been any confirmation that she's going too or is it all just speculation because they're a couple?

^I've seen it other places too, but it all seems to be based purely on the fact they're a couple. I've seen nothing that comes from either club or player.

A few Tweets saying she's signed for Juve along with an Everton player, but no real massive accounts.

Not really. For 12 months of Unai’s time he was exceptional - as in one of the very best in the league. His form definitely dropped for 6 months, but he was covering a position that isn’t his best. Before that there were plenty of good times and he was key to our improvement.
