He'll be missed. On his day there are few better. Thanks Dougie.

I'm expecting him to start shooting again and regularly score goals like his first one for us.

What a man!

Didn't somebody post recently that he's been sat on a new contract offer for months, but wanted out. PSR or not he would likely have always been going.

It feels like a strange time to want to leave though, Villa having just qualified for the CL. Perhaps he just fancied a change. What I can’t shake though is the feeling that we’ve been rewarded for qualifying for CL by essentially being coerced into selling a key player and our main penalty kick taker to meet some arbitrary financial target, at a time when really we should be strengthening. We’ve even been moaned at for making the best of it in terms of transfers elsewhere.

Yep it made the decision to meet PSR needs a lot easier.

Yeah, I'd assume we'd have tried to offload some others before Dougie if he hadn't actually wanted to go.

Good luck , played a role for us but 5 years in modern football is an age and I always felt he would move to the continent.
Not the first good player we have ever lost, at least this time you can feel confidant that a replacement or two will come in and hopefully hit the ground running.

Good luck Dougie and thanks for the memories.
Let’s see how we replace a player with his proven quality

Big test for Monchi.  If both Illing and Enzo turn out to be first teamers than we will have done very well.  If not, £20mish is robbery for a player of Luiz’s quality.

Gutted to see him go. One of my favourite players, hope to see him back one day.

Douglas Luiz on Instagram:

“The time has come to say see you soon, Villa Park. I want to start by thanking everyone (club, players, fans & staff). This was a place where I felt at home — you fans made an impact on my career & you will never be forgotten by me. I will miss you! I hope I made you very proud. You can be sure that I always tried to give my best version — as a player & as a human being. It was 5 years of many joys, celebrations, struggles, learning, games, fun & many other things. Now I will continue my life at another club, but my fans & passion for you will never fade. Thank you for everything Aston Villa.”

It’s a nice message but with most players doing this sort of message when they leave I do wonder how much is planned PR by agent/club and how much is from the heart (not saying it isn’t, just seems everyone does a message about how special it was nowadays)

At his 3rd attempt he got his move away, of course it's just PR bollocks. I wish him well as a person but we move on with players that actually want to be here.
