Well no I get that, but had this been a completely unrelated transfer it coming out of the blue wouldn’t be the same. It’d just be something we’d been working on in the background. But this feels a bit like Juventus just mixing and matching who they are happy to kick out of the door. Fingers crossed he’s really good, but seems more of a punt.
Well quite.  He's 23 and spent the season on loan at a relegated team.  It feels to me like they're getting our best outfield player (in my opinion) and we're getting squad fillers.  Imagine if we were signing Rice for £25m + Archer & Kellyman.

It does feel like Juventus are bullying us a bit here to get what they want out of the deal.

Exactly.

My response now would be to demand Iling-Junior, Barrenechea AND Soule, along with the £20M they can actually afford.

Its pissing me off that we are losing a player of Douglas Luiz calibre to a club that cannot afford a player like Douglas Luiz, & WE are the ones getting pissed around by the other club.

At this point, I would rather take the fucking 4 point deduction & just buy Iling-Junior outright...

That's all well and good but if they're the only ones showing serious interest, the player wants to go there, and we need need the cash quick, the we may have to adjust our expectations a little.

The whole PSR thing is causing problems but also giving opportunity, there's a fair shout that we're taking Chelsea's best left back because of it.

PSR is shit, but why is it us that has to make all the concessions?!?

Juve want a player of Douglas Luiz calibre but couldn't afford his left toe without PSR.

I would rather take the four point deduction than have those c***s dictate to us when its actually us that are in a strong negotiating position...

It isn't just us, it's just we're veiwing everything through the lens of our own interests.

I read it slightly differently - whilst agreeing that PSR is shit, and a mechanism that allows clubs that have been financially dodgy in the past to try to block the progress of clubs, like the Villa, that will challenge their current dominance.

I think all the noise about different players is coming from Juve and reflects their desperation to sign Luiz. I think Monchi is a better international operator than we have ever had and far less likely to get bullied - by Juve or anyone else.

It's a shame that a quality player, so much a part of what we have achieved in the last two years, looks like he has to move because of PSR, but I trust Monchi, Emery, et al to get the best deal possible for us. UTV.

Part of this is down to the player though. I'm sure if Luiz 100% wanted to stay then we would have explored other solutions to the FFP nonsense.

My reading is that we’re negotiating player and cash deals with clubs outside of the Prem because (i) there is possibly more value in that for us than pocketing (say) £75m and then trying to spend the cash, and (ii) those types of deals are the only ones feasible for almost all non-Prem clubs, who have plenty of players but not so much cash. It’s a way of levelling the trading playing field, and thereby expanding the market (and consequently opportunities).

It’s an unconventional approach, but quite interesting.

There seems to be a separate game of poker going on among the alleged FFP challenged clubs, with plenty of noise (but little action) around and between ourselves, Chelsea and Everton. I wonder if we are colluding in trying to make a market? Or maybe it’s just FFP back-scratching? Either way, it looks quite coordinated.

Will be gutted to see Luiz leave but increasingly wanting to get it over with now so we can move on. Get it done quickly before Weston McDonald's changes his mind.

So McKennie wants his entire contract paid off before leaving? As any new club will be paying him a signing on fee, that's a bit unusual no?

Plus he would be getting a pay rise anyway.  Pure greed.

Sound business by negotiating exchange of players plus cash so long as it's players that Emery wants. If we had a lot of cash to throw around we would be held to ransome. This is a new way.

I wouldn't touch this Argentinian player with a barge pole. Sounds like a plan D and we'll get ripped off.

What on earth are you basing that on?
