Not sure the climate will be a decision maker unless he loves snow. Turin gets an average annual snowfall of 163cm. It's bloody cold up there. He should have held out for a move to Sporting!

That can't be right, man. Turin in winter is dull and foggy with some rain but not a lot of snow. Pretty nice city though. Though not as nice as Lisbon, I grant you.

Is there a rule about how quickly we can turn around and sell a player again? Like could we turn around in August and sell one of the exchanged players to get some cash in hand?

I think we will justify a 70 m valuation for Luiz.
20+30+20cash.

Yeah I’d say that’s about right. Explains why we’d do a part ex I suppose.

Same thoughts. I suppose you’d hope for £80-£90 for him ideally but we don’t know what was written into the last contract and we do know that he wants out if he’s refusing to sign a new one so I don’t suppose £70m is too terrible considering.

Unless Iling Junior is a future superstar AND McKennie is better than adequate, this is a terrible deal forced upon us.

Dougie is a massive loss.

I'm increasingly thinking it wasn't forced upon us, he wants a change.

So say Arsenal come in with an offer for Watkins and he says he wants to go, we just let him go because it’s been forced on us do we and like many on here have said there’s no point keeping players that don’t want to stay

I actually agree I don’t think it’s worth keeping players who want to go but it would be interesting to see people’s different takes depending on the player

There’s a bit of poker playing in all this. Bluffing when players are for sale and when they’re not. Most would agree that we will need to cash in occasionally in order to grow but yet we can’t be seen as a selling club.

Arguably tielemans was signed last year in anticipation of this happening, we are just cashing in those chips.

With Watkins the plan b is Duran and we are choosing to sell him instead. In a parallel world, where he wasn’t nuts, it could’ve been Watkins being sold.

Succession planning is part of what Monchi became famous for, this is that in action.

So to answer the question, if anyone came in for Watkins this summer I’d expect the answer to be a firm, non negotiable, fuck off.

The rules have changed since then but it is still possible. The only restriction is that a player can only be registered with 3 clubs in a season. So in that case 1 would be Juve, 1 would be us and then there'd be 1 left.

It's mostly to stop clubs signing players with the plan for 2 half season loans, or put another it's yet another rule that was changed because Chelsea are fucking scum.

If a player wants to go, they usually go.
If Arse came in for Watkins and he wanted to go, then subject to Arse being close to our (the clubs) valuation he would go.
My guess is 80 to 90 million.

Ohhh Weston McKennie
Ohhh Weston McKennie

Your imagination appears to be as active as McKennie's thyroid. Not very.
Can't let this pass without a <laughing face emoji>

I’d also agree with this, but because the succession plan is not in place, I think we’d demand a premium cost (whereas the luiz numbers seem very reasonable).

This is the problem, there is a shortage of centre forwards, its why £40 is being bandied about for Duran, its also driving the price of Watkins.

Absolutely no chance we'd even entertain bids for Watkins this summer.

So it was forced upon us? Or wasn’t?

It was probably more likely forced on us because we currently can’t afford to keep a player until the end of their contract and let them go for free because of our PSR situation. Plus Dougie apparently not prepared to sign a new contract.

Just confused what edgy meant, as he appears to say both.

I took it to mean he wasn’t forced upon us from a financial point of view, but from a Dougie wanting to fuck off point of view.

That's exactly what I meant.

So it was forced upon us, but by Dougie.

Well I said I didn't think it was forced upon us but I meant on the financial side. Maybe him forcing it on us sounds a bit harsh, but I'd say it's looking plausible that he wanted a change. I guess it depends how much power you think the player has, but 5 years is decent service nowadays. If it was someone after 2 years then maybe we would have been less willing. 🤷‍♂️

No, Dougie may or may not have pushed to leave, but without PSR pressure, the club would have been able to extract maximum value and time the sale on it's own terms.

Juventus know we are pressured, and have used this to improve their bargaining position, which is why McKennie and Iling-Junior are somehow worth £20m each, and Dougie "only" £60m.

Exactly, I said a few weeks ago don’t be surprised if we end up with a major squad overhaul as Monchi will want to earn his money. Wheeling an dealing is his bag and he will be targeting players to fit Unai’s plan rather than the square pegs  he has been dealing with
