Yeah, I think continental wages are quoted as net (which makes sense), whereas in the UK it's gross.

Unless you're in Germany, where gross wages are nett.

Turin is quite close to Switzerland, maybe he wanted to be closer to his in-laws.

I think it's a deal that suits all parties. Obviously we'd have been more than happy to keep a player as good as him, and I assume he'd be happy to finally crack the Champions League with Villa. But the chance for him to play for a genuine European giant in Juventus who always qualify for the Champions League, live in a great city like Turin and earn even more money, while we get a nice big profit for PSR, two new players to strengthen the squad and some cash, in a department that's probably our strongest makes sense all round.

I'm sorry to see him go but I wish him all the very best. Apart from if we meet them in the Champions League obviously, then I hope he's as shit as he's been since Christmas for us!*

*Just a joke, don't write in.

Is Turin a nice place to live? I thought it was quite industrial.

There are the industrial quarters, but in the main it's an incredibly pleasant, mostly baroque city.

Unless Iling Junior is a future superstar AND McKennie is better than adequate, this is a terrible deal forced upon us.

Dougie is a massive loss.

I'm increasingly thinking it wasn't forced upon us, he wants a change.

The two lads coming into the side need time to adjust.  I think the fact they are part of a makeweight for a very popular player like Dougie  leaving , opens them up for criticism that they wont be/aren't as good as Luiz. I think Doug had a ropy start at Villa , giving the ball away agaisnt Bournemouth first home game which led to a goal ?

Anyway , good luck Douglas and even better luck to Weston McKennie & Samuel Iling Jr.

Would have preferred Chiesa and money if I'm being honest, but looks like it's a done deal now, so better get behind them. If anyone can shape them into decent players, it's that Unai fella.

Dougie has been a good signing all round; we brought him cheaply, developed him and gave him opportunities (including allowing the inevitable up and down moments) before he felt ready for a change and we sold him for profit at a good point with 2 years left on his contract. Plus, it’s not to a rival in the same league.

I’m not sure about swap deals generally, but if Emery and Monchi really wanted the two players involved then I’m all in favour of it.

Just on Dougie, as good a player as he is, I’ve always felt that he’s never been the same player when Kamara’s not been next to him. That largely applies to his best performances in a Villa shirt IMO. So I don’t think this is actually the worst sale to have happened and I certainly don’t think it will massively damage us. However, neither Mckennie or Barkley are at the same level as Dougie and I’d much rather have one very good player than two good players. I think we need another talented player to replace what Dougie offered and at the same level or higher.

My money is on Dougie being sold by Juve to Barca in the next 18 months. I just hope we have a sell-on clause.

Assuming they can find any significant money whatsoever.

Probably another deadwood deal. Barca at least have the potential to resolve their financial problems. Juve can't rely on Aston Villa for every deal.
