That attitude concerns me.

The difference is when Luiz was saddled with playing 6, he just got on with it even though it wasn't his best position.  McGinn & Tielemans did the same.

If McKennie comes I'll back him, like I do all those wearing claret and blue. But at Leeds he just did not look in good physical shape and his game reflected that regardless of the position he was asked to play.

Because Unai Emery asked them to do it.

McKennie is more of a defensive midfielder. He doesn't play progressively, but is better at tackling and playing simple and effective passes. My guess is that McKennie will cover Kamara and at times allow us to play with two defensively minded '6's.

He's the assist King of Italy or something like that.

Romano insinuating it’s a done deal.
Ah, FFS.

I do trust Emery and all that.  But, (and I've shamelessly nicked this) Monchi sold Salah, Nainggolan, Alisson, Rüdiger, Emerson and Paredes at Roma for relatively cheap. It cost him his job.

I haven't studied his career in depth and I'm certain there's loads of brilliant signings and sales too.  But the truth is, I'm just gutted to lose Luiz.

I completely get the background, contract situation, FFP etc.

But, we've got lost of extremely good players but very few elite ones.  We've just (seemingly) sold the player I was hoping we'd be building our team around for the next 5 years.

I can't speak about all of these, because I don't know them well, but Roma made a £30m profit on Salah in one season, a £60m profit on Allison in two seasons, and £20m profit on Rudiger in one season (all sold to English clubs).

* Just checked the others, Nainggolan was a €30m profit after 3 years with the club, Emerson was a £25m profit after 2 years, Paredes was a €15m profit after two years.

That is a LOT of money to make from players who didn't spend more than a couple of years at the club? It also might be that selling for profit was part of his remit there.  I don't know what is classed as "relatively cheap", but given this was in the 2017-2018 timeframe, it feels like these fees were more than decent?  Making £20m on a player after a year or two would be decent money TODAY, never mind six or seven seasons ago?

A good read here about Leeds and his return to Juventus. Enjoy, you fat bastard!

I don't think many of them were thought of as cheap at the time. Allison was a world record transfer for example.

Interesting Luiz could still have a sell-on clause - hadn’t really considered that - which explains favoring a deal loaded with players versus a big fee.

As I said before, it won't make the slightest bit of difference.

That cant be right can it? Wouldn't any sell on fee clause expire when his first contract with us expired?

There is that. I just think it'd be a bit odd that he'd want to leave now when everything is going so well, considering he stayed when they weren't under Gerrard.

Yeah, don't really understand why he'd want to leave now either.

He's been here 5 years, maybe he just wants something new and feels now is the time.

Marginally connected to this, a player at PSG - cavani? - said working under Emery is hard work and a third year would’ve been too much for him.

He was an old past it pro at this point but there is merit in freshening up the squad to maintain eagerness and willingness to learn.

Just wish Doug wasn’t the one to be sacrificed as I think there will be a big hole in our CM next year, definitely until Christmas unless we can find a DCM.

Because unless stipulated in the contract they don't expire. That's why we spent years trying to do a deal over Ugo's for example.

No, because the clause is in the contract with Man City, not the player.

I don't think there was a sell on fee, just a buy-back. I looked back at the reports of the signing and haven't seen anything about a sell-on clause.

There has to be notional values applied.  If they are at the lower end of the range for the Juve players it would suppress the Luiz value (but be counter productive for FFP where we want to do the opposite.)

This chap says 20% sell-on fee.
