Maybe. It feels to me like we're being taken for a ride. If we are able to get Gallagher in, I'll feel a bit better about the whole thing. Think he'd be brilliant for us.

Some sort of deal with Chelsea would make far more sense. Straight swap with both players valued at £70m, job done.

We don't know how much he wants to leave. He may really want to go Juventus so our hand is weaker.

Same here, pretty underwhelmed if I’m honest.

Illing is a very fast left sided player, wing and full back. Good height too. Think he's the steal in this whole deal.

Re McKennie, I am seeing him as a straight replacement for Dendonker, just more athletic and versatile. Spent a large chunk of his early career as a holding mid and is decent defensively apparently. Judging any player on 6 months of Marsch and Bielsa in the prem is madness, probably akin to judging Doug on Gerrard form.

This is how it feels to me too, whilst accepting this may also be a factor.

If it has to be Luiz, pick up the phone to Arsenal and get a proper fee. If Juventus want an exchange I'll be interested in Chiesa or Locatelli, not some player they've been desperate to get rid of for about the last eight transfer windows. They're our rivals now, let's not help them out.

Locatelli would be excellent for what we need because he'd be great as a DM whilst Kamara is out but he'd also be excellent alongside him to free up the rest of the midfield to be really attacking in games. Highly unlikely though given he signed a new deal last year.

There is that. I just think it'd be a bit odd that he'd want to leave now when everything is going so well, considering he stayed when they weren't under Gerrard.

I'm not really sure how it's evolved into a Luiz vs Tielemans argument, anyway, when we can quite clearly play both. Surely nobody is going to make a claim that McKennie or Barkley are a better option than Luiz?

Tim & his "Villa infinitely better" in a couple of games when Tielemans played over Douglas Luiz bullshit...

Yeah, don't really understand why he'd want to leave now either.

What does Iling do?

He's a left sided attacking mid.

Pacy, comfortable on the ball. Lots of potential.

Perhaps he peaked pre Christmas and just couldn't get his form back? Maybe Unai couldn't get what he wanted from him. We will never know, but maybe his head was turned in Jan and had told the club he wants a new challenge. New Brazilian manager at Juve too.

We also don't know about his contract, we don't even know for sure how long it never mind what's in it. It's been suggested it's 2026 in some places, so if it is and he wants to leave now is the best time to let him. Is there a release clause. Maybe Man City have a sell on clause, some places say no, others say 20%. If it's the latter then player swaps again benefits us.

Anyone recall if there is a "sell on" clause with Ci£eh?

I was thinking about this, and with the caveat that the players we are getting in exchange are worth it, then it works better on the books. Let's say we value Luiz at 80, exchange him for 20m + Mckennie (35m) + SIJ (25m), Man City have a sell-on clause of say, 20%, they get 4 million. For the purpose of balancing the books, that is better than selling for a straight 80 and giving Man City 16 mil. I stress again, only better if those players are worth it.

That's unless with sell-on clauses that it is 20% of the overall value and not just the cash exchange bit. No idea.

He's been here 5 years, maybe he just wants something new and feels now is the time.
