I just think he's been affected more than anyone by the loss of Kamara.  They complimented each other's games perfectly at times.  I remember a Hibs fan saying something like "Luiz and Kamara could keep the ball off you in a phone box", and that's how it felt at times.

He's still an excellent player, and integral to our side, but he does need to find a way to thrive when he doesn't have Kamara at his side or just behind him.

He’s not been the same since his hair started growing. It’s almost a reverse Samson effect.
Looks like he's shaping himself for a move to merseyside based on hairstyle .

At times he came so deep last night that he was in line with the back four…and that’s when we were in possession passing out from the back. There’s no way one of our 2 central midfielders should be dropping so deep to effectively become a 3rd CB…and I’d say that’s part of the insecurity placed on the players of having Olsen and Lenglet in the team.

Kamara was doing that until he was injured.  It's fine, but it means the fullbacks should have been pushing up more.

Tbf to Olympiacos, they had their front three work extremely hard covering both the passing lanes as well as closing down the passer.

It was quite impressive how just those three stopped our play out from the back.

When we passed with a bit of speed, we got round them, but for the most part, we played into their hands with slow build up play that generally ended up with us giving it back to Olsen for him to boot it forwards.

I wondered why we didn't do what we did to Newcastle last season where the full backs pushed forward & we chipped balls over the pressing front players to them, which bypassed their whole front line.

And then I remembered who was in goal...

He looked crushed last night. It wasn’t one of his better nights and I’m sure he feels he let the entire club down. I fully expect him to be very good at the weekend and next week. Douglas Luiz is a superb player. He will bounce back and show it.

True enough but again we are hampered by our lack of players through injury. With those tactics, Kamara could come across and cover for either of the full backs who are forward, when either of them tired from all the work up and down the flank, we don't have replacements on the bench. And at least part of the success of that game was that we were going long to McGinn to hold up right on their back line, we cant do that either as he's having to fill in in DM.

We are just seeing the inevitable I'm afraid, a lack of tactical options due to injuries. Might we have blooded youngsters to give us more options. I think so.

I wouldn't be starting him to be honest. He's been out of form for weeks, and the last two games against Chelsea and Olympiacos he's been very poor. You can't just keep hoping he'll play himself into form. Play Tim, he came on and looked decent enough last night, or put Tielemans next to McGinn if Youri is fit. Luiz is an excellent player and we wouldn't be where we are without him, but he's been costing us results recently, so he needs a game or two out of the side, whether that's to get his fitness or head right, or both.

All fair points...

We played better without him the last few weeks to be fair.

That was when Tielemans was fit. He may not be for Brighton.

In fairness to Dougie, he was still trying until the end last night, demanding the ball and trying to find forward runs.

I knew we should have kept Sanson.

Hopefully last night will be a wake up call for him. During the game I was thinking how can he be even thinking of playing for Brazil again with performances like this. I want my Rolls Royce back.
