Useless bastard, sell him.
I think he and Zanolio set the tone today, the first 10 minutes both were poor and the complacency seemed to spread from them.

They had an off day. Dougie has been exceptional, if he had a bad day so be it. He’s been absolutely instrumental in why we’re in the top 5.
Agree, but he is not beyond criticism.
He was poor today.

His piss poor attempt to closedown for the first goal after ball watching was really poor.
Yep piss poor. Cost us the goal at Wolves also . He's great when he plays well but he really needs to add consistency especially if he wants to get back in the Brazil squad .
I thought Zaniolo was more culpable, he didn't track the run then gave up when the ball was played back, Duggie could and should have closed faster but he was never going to get a block in there.
Zaniolo did the same for the West Ham goal; stopped tracking back so that Bowen had the chance to cut inside.

The goal came down their left?

Honestly, I know H&V loves a good scapegoat, but not everything is one guy's fault. The two players most culpable for the goals were probably our two best on most days: Luiz and Martinez.

Dougie called up for the games against Colombia and Argentina. His first Brasil call-up in 2 years.

I'm always torn on things like this. He absolutely deserves it, but I'd be quite happy if he was left out and had a nice 2 weeks off to relax.

I generally go with the view that it probably makes the player happier, shows he can fulfill his international ambitions, so that’s good for us. Obviously hope and pray he doesn’t get injured!

Yep.  I worry if a player isn't getting international recognition playing for us there's a concern they may feel a need to move to a more fashionable club to get noticed.

We have to stop bricking it every time a player gets called up. It’s what they want to achieve while with us. This is not the dark ages where information is limited. If a player is tapped up he doesn’t have to wait for getting together with players from Man City to see it happen. Agents are everywhere and these players are connected. And we need to take comfort that Aston Villa is a superb and ambitious place to be right now. Not like back in the day when as a club, for the most part we were just treading water and there to make up the numbers. Our best players are very well paid and play a club truly headed in the right direction. This is great news for Doug and absolutely well deserved.

Great news !
Happy for Douglas Luiz just concerns for him being readily fit and available for the Spurs match after the international break.

He deserves it though I imagine he's only in the squad due to the injury of Casemiro. I hope Dougie smashes it. The game at the Maracanã against Argentina will be fun.

His assist to Watkins deserves special mentioned in his own thread. Wow. Absolutely world class.
He ran the show when he came on against the Dutch Cheese Farmers.

Luiz I rate as a truly special midfield talent. I adore his way of playing football.
I would love to see more of him and Tielemans on the pitch playing football together rather than one or other - that are going to be a devastating combination of midfield brilliance!

Again, they're called AZ Alkmaar. Call them that

I'm using the clubs nicknames and respectful enough to use English.
I think again you're missing the point! Douglas Luiz pass was truly wonderful!
Up The Villa!

You learn something new every day. It seemed an odd thing to call them
