Hopefully he retires now from Brazil and focuses on the Villa.

Does he have to quarantine? He probably needs the rest. Might miss him for a few weeks.

Has there ever been another player who has won an Olympic medal ( in any sport) whilst on the books at Villa?

The Olympic hero Douglas Luiz won't be available for the first match of the season
Dean Smith "Douglas will be coming back in on Monday, hopefully with his gold medal around his neck and he'll get a good welcome from everybody. I've been really pleased with what he's done at the Olympics and I'm proud of him"

It doesn’t seem like he’s getting much a break.

I guess he’ll be eased into training with the possibility of being in the squad for the Brentford game.

Wonder if a new contract is imminent? I mean now the clause has expired we should be looking at giving hima  long term contract. I think luiz is going to be a excellent player over the ysars

I'm pretty sure we gave him a new improved one this time last year. Another thing that was all very confusing about that clause.

Edit: from what I can find, perhaps it was talked about or even just press speculation, maybe he got just a pay rise on the back of his efforts in keeping us up, but it looks like his current deal has two years left. Get him signed up!

Maybe our best “signing” of the summer - the fear the plastics would come and take him back was a real concern - if he can rediscover his best form, a world class player on our books

How longs he got left 2-3 years. We dont t wanna be letting this get to a 2 year contract as our hands will.be tied in terms of fee if luiz wishes to go.  He could essily be a 40-50m playwr of he continues to progress

So Douglas won't be off to Brazil matches during this break.
Not in squad anyway given rest from all his tournament play and Brazil are ok for qualifications so he can be excused
That's a relief to me for Chelsea as he brings a calmness and ball playing ability to the midfield and is our main deep lying player. The pivot man. A Dean Smith version of a Defensive midfielder is Dougie L

They made it clear he was going to be rested from these games weeks ago so there was never a concern for him missing Chelsea.
