I’d sell if we got a big offer but if it’s not massive then I’d rather we keep him and get in a proper defensive midfielder which means Luiz could move into an more box to box role. He’s got a lot to his game but I think we limit him too much playing him the way we have been.

The old what happens if we get a bigger bid, buyout clause discussion...I’m not biting 😂

I thought the agreement was £25m after 1 season & £35m after 2.

If it's the latter, we can comfortably replace him with that money.

I like Luiz, but £27.5m is probably about the going rate, rather than undervaluing a player of his age and ability, based on what we’ve seen from him so far isn’t it? I hope he will continue to improve, but maybe he won’t, and will keep being quite up and down.

He starts every game for Brazil currently so I'd say it's more 35-40m given how young he is still.

Would prefer him to stay with us and continue growing with us. Last season he was very good up to January imo and then wasn't quite the same afterwards but he wasn't alone in that.

Nakamba done well in some of his starts but he's one of those to me that will get found out a bit if he starts 10 games in a row, his potential is nowhere near Doug's imo.

Yep, agree with that.  I think playing alongside a strong strong defensive midfielder would help him out a lot.

What about the player himself?  He's nowhere near getting a starting place in City's team. He might not want the move on that basis.

Every indication including his own Twitter has always been very pro Villa. I see no reason at all why he won’t be with us next summer unless Man City suddenly decide they want him. Right now nothing to suggest that’s the case.

There was some mention of 6th June, I forget where.

I'm not worried, I think:
a) based on very little, just impressions from what was said early on, but I think the small print in the clause works in our favour. I think he's a Villa player and that's that.
b) I think we've got ourselves a bargain. in a world where Dwight McNeil is a £40m player, i can't see how Doug is worth less than £60m. Not knocking McNeil there, who I'd be happy if we signed, but Doug is a regular in the Brazil side

Douglas could always refuse to sign with Man City? I'm fairly sure they don't need him any way.

I’m pretty certain it was conditional in the deal. If Citeh want him he has to go.

If Man City want to win the Champions League then they'll need better than Luiz.
