Some sites saying other clubs are offering more to City to encourage them to buy him back and sell him on at a profit. Is that allowed?

Shirley other clubs can buy him off us, without the need for a go-between. There might be some buy back clause involving citeh, but he's our player.

As far as has been reported, Man City get first dibs so we can't sell him without giving them the chance first.

But you'd hope that when we agreed to that buy back clause it was written in the contract that they then couldn't sell him within 12 months of buying him back.

If and it is if, he's going back, you can rest assured Villa will have known about it for  good while and hopefully identified a replacement.  I would prefer he remain with us.

Might be why he didn't start the last 2 games.

While I hope we keep him because he could develop into a very good player, it could also work in our favour because he's not an out and out defensive midfielder which would improve the way we set-up.

Aye, was thinking that.

I hope he stays.  He's young enough to develop and push on with us further.  Would be a pisser if his last real contribution was that penalty conceded in the Yanited match.

That said - based on his form in the last season - he's not irreplaceable.

But I'd rather add to the quality we've got, rather than give ourselves more rebuilding to do.

My preference is always to replace the weaker players but  I agree we have looked better when playing with a genuine defensive midfielder,Nakamba.

I don’t think he’s leaving at all. Back in April he was retweeting some guy who was promoting his future at Villa. He’s 23, he’s in a good side. He will continue to improve. Nakamba did well coming in for him at Spurs and deservedly kept his place vs Chelsea. But I don’t think anyone believes Nakamba is the future. I would like to see Douglas play a little further forward and get into goalscoring positions because we’ve all seen he’s got a great shot on him. However like Stan he’s continuing to learn the DM position and he makes mistakes on occasion. But he has played a very unsung role in our defensive improvement and will only get better at it.

Like Dougie a lot but the “we all know he’s got a good strike on him”attribute hasn’t really materialised since the Bournemouth goal yonks ago. He owes us a few next season !

I’d sell if we got a big offer but if it’s not massive then I’d rather we keep him and get in a proper defensive midfielder which means Luiz could move into an more box to box role. He’s got a lot to his game but I think we limit him too much playing him the way we have been.

Douglas isn’t a weak player. He’s a hell of a prospect who was out of form. We could really do without losing him.
