How long was his initial contract?  He’ll be at the end of year two this summer so on a four year deal his value may start to drop.

We should try remove the clause and offer him a longer deal this January.  It will be a wise investment I think.

Not claiming to be ITK, though I assume that the option that Citeh have is something that has to:
1. expire after a defined period
2. be exercised or given up by them, or
3. be bought out by us, i.e. we pay them a fee and they agree to give up the option

If we offer him a new deal, I would suspect that is a sufficiently material change to necessitate 3 above.

He's a very good player and one only likely to get better. I hope that progress is at the Villa.

We could buy out the buy out clause, then put a buyout clause in his contract, then create a bidding war once someone has met the buyout clause.

We should do all that, with a war chest.

But what if we got into a bidding war with Citeh over it?  I think we should start preparing our bid straight away.

I think we will have more success if we prepare to lob the bid.

Popped into the Villa shop today and all Douglas luis cousins were there and buying half the shop :)   mind no idea what fitted them as everything seemed XXL size to me in there. Sort it out Villa.

Think this deserves a mention as haven’t seen it elsewhere but that ball to Barkley for the second goal was superb. If KdB had done it we wouldn’t have heard the end of it.

.not sure if I was alone but on was watch of the match I thought he was MOTM. Does a lot without being noticed. He's going to be an incredibly good player in a few years time.lets hope we can make and impression and convince he he can winthings here whilst still young.

I see reports popping up saying Pep might move for Douglas in January? Not sure how reliable these are, but worrying as we certainly don't want lose him then. This deal is so skewed in City's favour. Perhaps we can offer him a new mega-bucks deal? Try and eliminate the buy-back clause.

I thought that if they offered the 25m to activate the buy back that was it - we had no say in it.

From my limited knowledge, I’d imagine the buy back is something for the summers rather than January (we’d be stupid leaving that door open).

We need to have a replacement list ready and lined up because this glorified loan is ending in the summer.

Skewed as in we got a player out of our league that was integral to us staying up, or skewed that we make a profit on him, or skewed that that profit increases each year? I think we, and Douglas, have done really well out of the deal.

Luiz is nowhere near good enough for City. Pep needs a £100M  midfielder for  his team. There is no need for him to waste his time and money on an inadequate player.
