If Man City couldn't get a work permit for him, how will we?

He has played a full season in a top league, and would be in the top few per cent of transfer fees and of wages at Villa. They paid less, albeit not by much, and he wouldn't be anywhere near their one of their top earners.

If it went down to arbitration we would also be in a better position to argue that he would be an asset to the club as we have far less valuable players ahead of him in the pecking order.

Is it not that points are also allocated for a transfer, meaning the very act of Villa buying him pushes him over the threshold of points required for a permit?

Only if he is withing the top so many per cent of transfer fees. We are only paying about £3 million more than they paid for him so not that different, and prices have, presumably, gone up since then.

Does that mean then that if City want to exercise the buy back clause in the future, in order to retain his work permit he would have to be in the top few earners and top few transfer fees for them?  If so that suggest s a hefty buy back fee would be required.

If they wanted to buy him back you'd assume he'd be a regular for Brazil by then so they wouldn't need to pay stupid money for him surely.

I think it’s actually Eastie on his shoulder filming as they walk together through the Mall of America.
