It's amazing how many of this site's readers are involved in the contract negotiations!!

This is turning into one hell of a summer! Blown away by the level of input from the new owners, and the total change of direction in our transfer policy. Oh happy day!

Mad exciting, innit 😊

We are fucking Box Office.

It's like an elaborate loan deal in effect.  We sign him for £15 and, if Man City want him back, they pay £Xm.  If we wanted him on loan, we'd probably pay £4m - £5m and only have him for a year.

The similarity with a loan is that the original club still has a tie in to get him back if they want, but at least he's a fully registered Aston Villa player while he's here, we should be able to make some money on him and it's always possible that the original selling club will look elsewhere even if he is good for us. With a loan, he's going back no matter what. The point about the original club looking elsewhere is particularly relevant to Man City, who will probably have forgotten about him after 12 months unless he's bordering on PFA player of the year standard.
I'd be more worried about him being snatched back off us if it was Man Utd or even Chelsea.

Given our stance on loans and not improving a player for someone else the buy back clause if probably just a way of Man City ensuring they get last dibs. Money for them isn’t a problem so it could be that we make a sizeable profit should they come in for him.

That’s when the bidding war really starts! ;)

They won’t be getting first dibs. They will have the right to buy him back at a predefined price at predefined points (probably at each seasons end) and we won’t get a choice. Likewise I would also be sure there’s some profit for us, but not amazing. This is a clever work permit busting ruse by city.

Yep, and if he helps is stay in the league and gives us a platform to build on then it will all have been totally worth it.

Totally. At which point we will be buying up the worlds best youngsters and sending them out with buy back clauses! UTV

If he ends up being good enough for Man City to re-sign in a year or two, that can only been he's been fecking Mings-esque for Villa. I'll take that

Player of the tournament at the U23 World Cup. So no, he's shit.

All this talk of him going back etc and being a clever ruse by City ignores the fact that we have an astute DoF, CEO and Head Coach. That we are a big club and therefore there surely is more to it for us. I suspect there's a good profit to be made if indeed he does return there.

I don't see a downside to this. Plus it means we've a Brazilian striker and midfielder in the squad...

No pressure but I hope he's better than Anderson, Fred and his cousin David.

Fuck me, we need Phillips as well, because on some of those clips Luiz looks like  he could keep Grealish or SJM out of the side.
