Traore had one in the Villa/ Barcelona deal

Amazed they never exercised that option !!

When Boro come in for you then you have no chance, clause or not.

It's like an elaborate loan deal in effect.  We sign him for £15 and, if Man City want him back, they pay £Xm.  If we wanted him on loan, we'd probably pay £4m - £5m and only have him for a year.

From what I've read of Pep's opinion of him, how the transfer helps him get the work permit and the suspiciously low fee I think it's very very likely we'll be selling him back next summer. This is essentially a trick loan deal to get him a work permit. Not that I'm complaining really!

We can only speculate on the terms of the apparent buy back clause but does this mean if he's a success Citeh can snatch him back and give us our cash back but, if he turns out to be a dud, they keep the cash.? If so, it doesn't sound a great deal from our point of view but who knows, we certainly don't.

It does mean he can play against Citeh for us; unlike a loan.

Look, he'll be contracted to us for x years. When either the club or the  player decide to finish it, Citeh get first dibs.
Is all.

Given our stance on loans and not improving a player for someone else the buy back clause if probably just a way of Man City ensuring they get last dibs. Money for them isn’t a problem so it could be that we make a sizeable profit should they come in for him.

The OS only declares when everything is done, and they've had time to do the shirt-stretching photos and "how does it feel to be at Villa" video.

You mean "how does it feel to be at a massive club like Villa" video.

Hopefully if he has to get out to the USA quickly we will be spared the video.

They won’t be getting first dibs. They will have the right to buy him back at a predefined price at predefined points (probably at each seasons end) and we won’t get a choice. Likewise I would also be sure there’s some profit for us, but not amazing. This is a clever work permit busting ruse by city.

Yep, and if he helps is stay in the league and gives us a platform to build on then it will all have been totally worth it.

It's amazing how many of this site's readers are involved in the contract negotiations!!

This is turning into one hell of a summer! Blown away by the level of input from the new owners, and the total change of direction in our transfer policy. Oh happy day!
