Quote
On 12 July 2019 Douglas signed for returning Premier League giants Aston Villa for a fee of £15 million, stating he was dissatisfied with the quality of football at Manchester City and was looking for an opportunity to win the Champions League. He also said it was down to his desire to play alongside the likes of McGinn, Mings and Grealish, rather than amateurish players at his previous club.

If he has a buy back clause isn't this in effect an glorified loan? As we can't stop him going back if he does well?

May well just be a way for Man City to get around his work permit issue...?

Good news! Welcome Douglas. Deffo no work permit problems?
Was going to ask the same. If City can't get one then how can we?
Apparently his loan appearances in La Liga

Also the transfer gives him the points he required. It appears Man city tried and failed so need to transfer him to get the points. This is therefore a no risk loan from their perspective as they believe he will come good and then they can grab him back.  Still if he helps us stay up and we get a couple of million profit hey ho I guess. 🤷‍♂️

More likely a way for them to get around the Financial Fair Play rules, as otherwise they would have just loaned him out again.

Either way, he sounds ace. And if he ends up being good enough for Man City he will have done well for us.

Surely a buy back clause will be based on when or if we want to sell rather than when or if Citeh want to buy him back, so makes more sense as a first refusal at an agreed fee.

We may not find out the details of the buy back clause, but for the first time in a good while i've faith that the powers that be know what they're doing. They have shown that they have contingency plans in place for many eventualities, so can't see them being unprepared *if* city decide to re-sign him.

I'd hope the agreement is for no sooner than 2 years and do less than double your money...

Does come across as more a fancy loan I suppose but who cares. He might help Wes settle.

Woody stealing Torontos thunder.

Indeed. This timezone thing is bullshit.

Anyway, I’m just glad we’ve finally got a player with a z in his name.

Not sure how true this is but if so it makes sense for both clubs as it would make it near imposible for him to get a work permit for Man City in the near futire.

You need to get 4pts out of this list to satisfy the requirements to get a work permit, which for us he will do

3pts - Fee is in the top 25% of all PL transfers this summer.

2pts - Fee is in the top 50% of all PL transfers this summer.

3pts - The wages are in the top 25% at the club.

2pts - The wages are in the top 50% at the club.

1pt - The players current club is in a top league and he played 30% or more games.

1pt - the players current club is in European competition and played 30% of games.

Isn't a buy back clause fairly normal in Europe ? A few hours ago i'd never heard of this lad, after seeing 2 minutes of him, i'm convinced he's the best young midfielder in Europe !! Hopefully he can be to us what Kante was to Leicester.

The new way to go about it is to add a “right to match bid clause”
