I cannot get over some of Konsa's footwork in recent games. The technique, distribution...compare and contrast to under Gerrard when his dribbling would make a toddler wince. And he would always play it square to Ty, abdicating responsibility for being progressive.

Now he can de-fend, he can off-end, he doesn't need to up-end cos of his positioning and physical strength. The man must be part of God's plan - McGrath is surely looking-on with admiration (well I know he is, he tweeted his pride in the club last night).

It’s really quite remarkable and I completely agree. I had seriously thought he had hit his ceiling. Where as with Dougie and Bailey and you could see they are extremely technically gifted, their form is not really a surprise, even though Bailey now looks world class, where as I often always believed Dougie had it in him.

Konsa always was a very good defender but what he has added to his game is incredible and now looks completely composed and as comfortable on the ball as Torres.

It's strange, because when we bought him, he was a technical, ball-playing centre-half, but it was seemingly coached out of him for a "safety first" approach and he generally regressed after his first 18-24 months with us. But this season, he's been brilliant.  He is defensively excellent, but now once again adding ball-playing to his repertoire.  It's so strange to see a back four so entirely comfortable with the ball at their feet.  That back four is probably better on the ball than most of the premier league midfields we had in the years before relegation.

That looks like a "oh thank God I'm f**king exhausted!" reaction.

It does a bit tbf.

that is a brilliant reaction

Also telling that all our defenders running to the half way line ready for the high line if needed, and barely a Citeh player in sight apart from a slow walking Ludo who would have been well offside.

A video popped up on YouTube of Jacob Ramsey playing some game/interview thing, and he was asked something about the defenders and he said about how Konsa is so good on the ball and the perfect kind of player for playing the way Emery wants, out from the back.

Might make the CB juggle a bit easier next year when Mings is back, if Konsa can get a few games at RB. He's improved a lot in that position, but needs to continue to do so to be more than a stop gap.

You have GOT to be fucking kidding me.

Seriously, if they keep banging on about the Saudis and Spurs supposedly having bad luck on the injury front, I'm going to steal a nuclear missile and drop it on Sky HQ.

Aston Villa fear Ezri Konsa could be out for significant period with knee injury

Aston Villa are sweating on the fitness of Ezri Konsa amid fears that the knee injury he suffered against Sheffield United could keep him out for a significant period.

Konsa will almost certainly miss Villa’s next two games against Chelsea in the FA Cup on Wednesday night and Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday.

But the defender could be out for even longer, possibly over a month, if Villa’s worst fears are confirmed following more tests and assessments which are due to take place.

That would be a huge blow to Villa’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League, although Konsa is still being assessed and there remains the possibility that the club’s worst fears are not realised.

Head coach Unai Emery will confirm the nature of Konsa’s injury on Tuesday, ahead of Wednesday night’s FA Cup fourth-round replay against Chelsea.
