The way they used it at the World Cup was great. It was very quick on almost decisions. Why the PL version is much different is perplexing. It’s like they look for ways to find fault vs something that is actually clear and obvious.

When there's VAR in Europe but not in the league? Plus abandoning years of training and squad building. Wouldn't suit us at all.

I agree with you - England should just implement the international standard version and stop pootling about with our own weird interpretation of it. Literally everyone else does it better.

Emery has used VAR to his advantage with the high line. We wouldn't have to completely go away from it. But whatever the rule is I trust him to find the best way of maintaining our success.

VAR has not intervened and changed any highline offside decisions for us this season.

VAR should have been introduced for offsides only & as automated as possible to reduce the delay. Those in the ground should be kept as informed as those watching at home.

Everything else should have been left to the referee on the pitch & could have been implemented gradually if the previous change was a success.

Instead they went in with both feet & are re-refereeing the entire game.

I absolutely don't want VAR scrapping. Everyone thought refs were bent before anyway and it was much worse than it is now. It will just lead to the "big" teams getting even more of the decisions. As mentioned, it is integral to our high line, it's just how we play. That would be all fucked. Unless this is separate to the new Semi-Automated Offsides?

Why is it a cumbersome, trial-by-ordeal ball ache over here and yet seems far more streamlined on the continent? I'm all for it if they sort it out but based on it as it is now - fuck it off.

I think the new automated offsides will alleviate a lot of that though, there will be much less delay as you're not waiting on someone zooming in on a pixel.

I’m not necessarily a proponent of getting rid of it. I want the right decisions. But I want the decision made by the onfield team to be primary criteria. That it has to be a blatant mistake to have VAR intervene. Or intervention could come from the refs on the pitch if they feel they need another look on the monitor. That’s not what it is now.

The VAR room should not be a demotion, meaning, if a ref had a bad game one week then they shouldn’t be doing VAR the next week.

No more slow motion, no more lines. Play it back at full speed with all the angles and make a judgement call. No more get out of jail free cards for the referees, and make them explain their decision to the crowd afterward like the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL and Rugby. Hold these guys accountable in the moment, and not days later when some mystery panel says 3 out of 5 of us thought it was incorrect.
