Yep, the version of offsides we're getting next season is what should've been implemented in the first place, the tech was available but for some reason pgmol decided against it.

I think I read somewhere (not 100% sure) that the reason we didn't get it is because Nike didn't have that technology so PGMOL couldn't implement it. So I'm guessing PGMOL have told Nike to put the technology in the ball or they'll go with a company that does.

I really do not understand offside anymore.

I’m asking this not to cause fights etc.

But, if like someone to walk me through the two tonight.

Liverpool score their second.

Villa second ruled out.

And the “Diego” chance…would that have been offside if scored?

Being offside is not an offence, being offside and actively interfering by receiving the ball, blocking a player or being in the eyesight of goal keeper is classed as offside. So al;though Gakpo was in an offside position, he wasn't when the ball was played to him.

Villa's one, Bailey was a few inches too far forward so normal offside call. If he hadn't had touched the ball and left it for Diaby to run onto, in theory there wouldn't have been an offside even though Bailey and Watkins was offside when it was initially played forward.

Last one, I don't think there was any offside at all, although if Carlos had touched it and then Watkins had managed to slide it in, then a call might need to be made.

Carlos is behind the ball and the rest are as Somniloquism described.

Not sure how the vote will go but it doesn't work, and it never could. Still didn't stop it being introduced.

All of us who are moaning about the obvious (maybe unconscious?) bias that leads to bookings for Villa players and let-offs for Liverpool (for example) players in matches like Monday - do you really want these officials to have more power over offsides and pens as well, knowing that a level of meaningful scrutiny has been removed?

Not for me thanks.

With our high line it’s might be best we keep it

It has worked for us over and over again this season.

Absolutely, and with us not being a favoured club.

Be careful what you wish for folks.

Emery has used VAR to his advantage with the high line. We wouldn't have to completely go away from it. But whatever the rule is I trust him to find the best way of maintaining our success.

I’m torn on this. If used correctly VAR should be a good thing. But it needs changing. They need to sort auto offside, inform the spectators in real time what they are looking at and explain decisions.
I hate the fact that you can’t celebrate a goal properly anymore, but we’ll adapt as fans

Our offside play is key to our defence being able to play the high line so I would want to keep it, however VAR is constantly let down by human error and lack of consistency from the officials.
