The opposite is the truth. He had the most expensive squad ever assembled in the Championship. Automatic promotion was the least we could have expected.  He spent millions on the likes of Hogan while giving not a fleeting thought as to how players would actually fit together in any coherent way. He had the luxury of top Premier players  like Snodgrass, Terry, Bolasie, Johnston, Grabban etc on eye watering wages. Aligning us with those footballing giants Ipswich Burton and Millwall making himself look like a god damn managerial genius for making the play offs.
