It might have been a game for Pau, given how much time Mings had on the ball and the lack of a threat from Preston. As we've seen though, if there's one thing that Emery loves it's to ease players back from injury very gently. And I imagine Keane and that big lump they brought on in the second half would have loved to kick Pau around a bit.Mings wasn't eased in at all. He even said the other day he was playing games whilst circa 80% fit. Now he's reaching full fitness we are seeing the clear improvement in our defence and the performance of others around him.

I was one of the doubters. Big fan of all Mings has done for us but that day v Chelsea I thought Emery took him off for his own good. He had struggled for weeks before then but that was the nadir. Konsa was also appalling that day after a really poor season. That was only five weeks ago, there was no evidence of any return of their very successful partnership. Mings sat out the debacle at Palace afterwards, was strange that he didn't even come on with poor Bogarde being roasted alive on left of an awful 3. But maybe this is the genius of Emery. Somewhat surprisingly brought Mings back in for the game v Brugge. Mings was outstanding that night and hasn't looked back since. I know it was only Preston but both Konsa and himself looked in top form. Clean sheet ahead of Olsen v Brentford too on a day we struggled elsewhere on the pitch. Brighton, Forest, PSG, Palace - season and maybe career defining games coming up in the next month.

Yes, because he returned to fitness when we were putting together a hodge-podge defence with one or two of Kamara, Digne and Bogarde at centre-back. If that were the case now, Pau would be rushed back in a similar way. But that's not necessary in a way that it was six weeks ago.

Not bothered by this or previous stat. Selective stats serve no meaningful purpose. The last 15 games they played together, before Mings injury, all PL games, brought 7 clean sheets and 8 goals conceded in total, never more than 1 in any game. Saying this serves no meaningful purpose is a bit like saying Watkins scoring 27 goals last season doesn’t mean he had a good season.

Mings transforms our defence and has since the day he signed. It's so obvious too. Really baffles me.Who wants to play at the Parc des Princes without him? The acid test this season defensively.
