Your first sentence is a fair point. Having Mings in defence effectively gives us an extra captain. The best teams have lots of leaders all over the pitch. You don't need to piss about with reallocating armbands and potentially upset players, like Gerrard did, to achieve that effect.

Exactly, but then he goes on to say McGinn won't be a natural starter, which I suspect will also apply to Mings.

I think they'll both be regular starters. I worried if Mings would ever get back to previous levels after the injury but delighted with how good he's been. And we generally play much better when McGinn plays well. I hope they're both here for a few years yet.

Mings is absolutely first choice in that backline...and I think Emery knows it too.

Would you drop him for PSG away?

I also have a feeling that Mings is making himself indispensable to Emery (again?). I wonder where we'd have finished last season if he and Kamara had stayed fit.

Probably 4th.

Not according to the PPG stats with and without both Mings and Kamara that were knocking about a couple of years ago.

You have a point. Probably 5th then.

TBF I've just checked the table and we were miles off third in the end. I'm not dying on this hill. I'll meet you at fifth.

👍 In the end we staggered over the line to 4th, and we're now in the Champions League quarter-finals. All is good!

I was disagreeing with you a bit. I was saying I don't agree that Mings should have been stripped of captaincy but I wouldn't strip McGinn of captaincy, either, and there is no need to do so as Mings is already like an extra captain on the pitch anyway, regardless of whether he's wearing an armband. Apologies if didn't explain properly.

Typical of you. Always bollocksing up your wording. Idiot.

I read in an interview with Jordan Nobbs in the Guardian that she’s doing her UEFA B coaching badge alongside Tyrone Mings.

Tony Hawks the writer (who also wrote Stutter Rap) gets mistaken with Tony Hawk. His Round Ireland with a Fridge book is genius by the way.

Did he do it on a skateboard?

Haha, he should have. It's a great book though. He does it for a bet (with comedian Arthur Smith) which is for £100. The fridge cost him £120. It's pointless but very funny.

I’d forgotten about that book. Thanks for the reminder.
It was great and probably worth a revisit.

We were 2nd on PPG when Mings was fit under Emery. I’d guess we’ve improved in that metric since he came back too.

And i maintain he’s unfortunate not to be selected for the first England squad under Tuchel.

Given he's played a handful of games on his return from serious injury, I'm not surprised in the least that he's not picked.

Really pleased he isn't in that england squad from a Villa perspective. Last thing he needs is more games at this stage .

This. Let Dan Burn go and get injured in international friendlies. Whilst Mings stays trains and yes, although we might have a friendly ourselves, maybe play Mings AND Torres or Torres and Disasi together in a match to confirm compatibility.
