Ok, it was a great clearance, albeit fortunate that it didn't end up in the net (both things can be true).  However, the other question to me is how the 6 foot+ midfielder is unchallenged at the back post.....and shouldn't that have been where Mings was positioned?   Either way, it's a breakdown in defence again that needs addressing.

Yes, they should have known that it was an absolute certainty that a cross was coming in as the winger was being closed down by a full-back who defends like a hologram.But at least he’s a massive upgrade on the useless fucker who let all those goals in against Vinny Jr,  Man City, Arsenal, Juventus and all Bayern Munich’s wingers and is often hailed as one of the best one-on-one defenders in Europe by people like Saka.

That said it’s same as other fortunate and misfortunes for own goals or saves.

Mings was imperious last night , from the assist for Bailey to that goal line clearance and everything in between. MOTM clear . Hopefully he's fully fit now . Him and Konsa are like a knife and fork. Best CB paring .

He stuck his leg out and diverted the ball just enough to prevent a goal. Of course he meant it. There is nothing to debate unless you are trying to be contrarian.

Where do we go from here when Torres comes back? Do we sacrifice defensive stability for his progressive passes or does his passing benefit us more than the Mings Konsa brotherhood?

It's a tough one. We were great at the back under Unai with those 2 but had some spectacular results and performances with Torres.

He threw his leg to get a touch and meant that, no question. But it whether he thought he would glance it just past the post OR would lift it up or over is what people are questioning. I don't think even Mings knew, but it doesn't matter as all he wanted to do was prevent a goal and he did.

We should be looking for horse for courses. The question really is when does Torres get a start to get his match fitness back. My thoughts are Brugges or Preston.
