For me as a 55 year old, Tyrone Mings is up there with Paul McGrath and Brian Little, this guy is an absolute Villa legend.

Respectfully disagree!
That’s fair enough, he may not have the footballing skill of Sir Brian and McGrath, although imo he gives everything to Villa when he plays, (and hopefully will again).
For me he is an outstanding human being and he is my favourite Villa player since McGrath no question.

I totally see that - I think Mings and McGinn will be seen as villa legends.  Maybe more in the Ian Taylor mould.

Both great players who have given there all, and seem to get what representing our great club means

I really hope he gets to play in the Champions League this season.

Would be fantastic to have a third player represent us from the Championship to the Champions League.

Bumped into a mate today who was at the Newcastle reserve/U21 game at Bodymoor and he said Tyrone was well off the pace. Kamara was very good apparently, given that, I think it might be a while still before we see Mings pushing for a start.

I know this won't be a popular opinion, but I reckon he'll come back towards the end of the season, do just about OK and then be sold.

He's got one of Emery's most loved players ahead of him, and he's going to struggle to get the minutes to get back to what he used to be.

That stacks up for me.
Might be a case of he’s happy to be a squad player and if/what clubs might be interested in him in might suit both parties for him to stay.

Its not popular but i think you wouldnt be wide off the mark with that theory either. He is 31 has had a long term injury so we dont know if he will ever be the same after that injury. As you say torres will be 1st choice.  Cant see mings and torres ever playing together either unless unai plays 5 at the back which i really dont like.

Mings hopefully be back in next 4 weeks but no doubt he will be given time

It's definitely plausible, but I reckon he'd be pretty comfortable knowing that he's not first choice. His England career is over now, is he going to be that much happier playing every week for Palace or Wolves over getting 15-20 matches per season for a club he clearly loves, (hopefully still) challenging the top six?

He's got two years left on his contract, so I don't see us selling him for the cash because we wouldn't really get much. Unless Diego Carlos surprises us all between now and the end of the season, it feels like next season it's Pau, Konsa, Mings + new defender.

There's always the question mark about how Mings will come back in terms of ability and strength, but I still see a role for him.  Torres will pick up knocks and will need to be rested and, if Ty does come back in the same condition, then I'd actively prefer him against the likes of Everton, Wolves or Ipswich etc as their forwards seem to bully us for long periods when we played them last month.

Whilst I dont think hell be first choice - if hes back and anywhere near his best - I think hell get plenty of football.

I might be wrong, but I wonder if we woudl at times swap it and use Ned as a more attacking right back and have mings at left back like konsa at RB

Plus - if we continue with anything like teh success of the last few seasons - there will need to be a lot of rotation - and we seem to suffer a fair few injuries.  Lets face it - we already have had quite a lot this season.

Maybe mings will see out his contract here and then be offered a coaching role maybe with the youngsters.

I think one more major injury and it wouldn't suprise me if he retired when his contract was up.

At 33? I'd be surprised.

Yeah all ifs and buts it all depends on if he fully recovers or has another injury lay off. If he recovers with no complications from his injury then hopefully wont have to retire at that age.

It was noticeable how Torres tired after a small injury in January last season and as the games mounted up - there times when we were crying out for someone a bit more solid at the back. So reckon Mings still has a part to play this season.
