It was a moment of madness for sure, I think it will concern Southgate.  But he's not playing anywhere near as badly as people are making out.  He made a superb block in the second half that's not getting mentioned.  There's a lot of hate out there for Mings and I'm not sure why, he's a good, dominant defender, strong as an ox, brave as a lion and an absolutely top bloke.
I like him aswell, but he does have that moment in him. I thought he was very good last night.

I have absolutely no "hate" for Mings and I agree with your analysis of him but... It would be wrong to deny that he is liable to make a stupid mistake every so often. That's not being over critical, it's just a fact! These mistakes are all the more noticable because the rest of his play is so good.

His temperament is questionable - he gets rattled by certain attackers, especially physical ones who he can't bully. Added to the odd rick with the ball from over-playing and you can never fully trust him.

But to counter that, his leadership, organisation, willingness to do the dirty work (blocks, last-ditch tackles etc.) is exemplary. A curate's egg of a player.
On balance, you'd rather have him than not.

Think Konsa's class will usurp him before too long (though you can have both, of course).

That player had made a back for him earlier. So Mings got his retribution in there. A sending off all day long.

Had a feeling there might have been previous between the players. It was the same with Zaha earlier in the season (when he was caught) and even DCL at Villa Park (where he got away with it). For a guy built like a brick shithouse he tends to take it as a personal affront when a forward takes him on physically. It was the same with Joelinton at Newcastle. When he gets distracted like that he's a liability.

There's a lot of hate towards him outside our confines for sure, I think it may have something to do with him being forthright about racism, but even with that the bellend writing the Guardian match report gave him a 5, which was bollocks, he was England's best defender by far.

Tyrone is one of those players that only really gets loved by the club he is playing for.  See Savage and the like.  A lot of other clubs' fans don't rate him as much as we do and also think he has a tendency to be a thug - especially following the Oliveira incident a couple of seasons ago.

People don't like because:

a) He doesn't play for their team.

b) He had the temerity to stand up to Zlatan Ibrahamovic.

c) The perceived 'wiping his feet' on that player whose name I can't remember which caused such consternation.

Given his penchant for error and the odd but of nonsense, I know who I would sooner see playing in that position for us, when you see his previous incumbents.  James Chester notwithstanding.

very lucky not to get sent off last night, imo. Always seems to have the capacity to do something very indisciplined at least once every game.

And as soon as he was subbed, the defence began to fall apart.

He’s quite outspoken on racism. That’s enough in Brexit Britain I’m afraid.

Anti-racism booed last night. Robinson heartily applauded at the cricket today. Murdered boy in Kingstanding racially abused.

Wonder if the Austrian said something that he took a dislike to and he snapped?

One thing for certain, the defence was completely at sixes and sevens once he went off. There was nobody taking charge and bellowing to the other players.

Sam Shutyourface on commentary was pissed off with Mings going off as he then had to find someone else to unfairly criticise.

Zaha and Joelinton certainly rattled him, big style: the former by being a total arse; the latter by being unduly big and strong!
Weird: let's hope our coaches can help him out during the close season.

I agree. I think it's because he calls racism out. He's been outspoken about it and has said people should educate themselves.

I think there's a definitely an element of that, I think anyone watching the game could tell you that taking him and rice off made our defence significantly weaker so anyone claiming he was poor is basing it on something other than the match itself.
