I think we're seeing more and more centre backs making mistakes, Stones always has one in him, Maguire, even Vin Dijk. It's the way the game is going these days, the ball flies all over the place, the refs are crap and there are TV cameras everywhere.

I'd like to see how he gets on with Carlos when he's back.

Can't argue with any of that, Drummond.

I'm also looking forward to seeing Tyrone alongside Carlos. Could be an Ugo/Southgate type pairing.

People also forget that the defenders above spend a lot less time "defending" because of the teams they play for.  The more time you spend defending, the more mistakes you'll make over a season.  I would bet that Man City centre-halves do about 50% less defending than we do over the course of a season.

I don't mind mistakes, they all make them, it just feels like Tyrone's bigger mistakes always seem to be punished with a goal or a very good chance.  As above, let's see how he plays for half a dozen games with a fit Carlos playing the Emery-way.

Whatever happens, if we are going out to get a replacement, who is guaranteed to be better, then it's going to cost a fortune.

Since the 2019/20 season, Tyrone Mings has missed 12 Premier League games. In those games, Villa have won one, drawn two and suffered nine defeats, while conceding 24 goals.

I might get this printed on a t-shirt.
Could be a good merch setup.
Tea towels, mugs, tote bags, hoodies.
Paul Hardcastle could do a song.

We conceded four with him in the team at home to Leicester last week.  He’s mostly a good player, but our issue is our total lack of anybody else of a similar level to come in if he’s out for any reason.

Liverpool conceded 7 against us a couple of years ago with Vin Dijk in the team. He's mostly good too.

One freak result proves what exactly? Get Ross Barkley back on that basis shall we? Mings is part of a squad that has never finished top half, and the way things are going, never will finish top half.

I'm not sure, you used one example, so I thought I'd do the same.

There have been many, many more bad results than good so I think you’ll run out of examples long before I do.

If he’s been here four years, when is his contract up?
Whilst we can debate whether he is undroppable, I suspect none of us would allow him to leave on a free.

Another thing is Mings has played his entire Villa career effectively carrying his defensive teammates, I reckon we'd have seen a lot less errors with an equivalent presence alongside him

Konsa hasn't kicked on as we'd all hoped and thought he would. Carlos appears to have leadership qualities, as does Young and I suspect that's one reason why he's in ahead of Cash. Carlos and Mings seems like a solid set up, even if they are both lefties.

I've always rated Mings and still think we're far better with him than without.  The stats mentioned above back that up.

I think once he leaves some people will back and realise he's one of the most influential players we've had in the last 20 years.

I hope he's with us for a few more years yet.

He's missed when he doesn't play though.
Regardless of his ability or our recruitment issues.
I'd buy a Mings tea towel anyway.

Carlos isn’t a lefty. He’s a righty who usually plays on the left.

Even better. Just needs to shuffle 5 yards right then.
