I wish he’d just look across the dressing room at Joe Root and just absorb some of Root’s cricket intelligence. Brook has the talent but he doesn’t have a cricketing brain.

Heard Michael Vaughan talking earlier in the week about the way the England players approached playing Bumrah in the summer (just looked to see him off in the main) and said that maybe they should consider that against Starc.  Seeing the figures from today's play, he probably had a point to be fair. 

Haven't followed all of it today, but did it rain.  They only bowled 74 overs, which seems low.

Most ex-cricketers turned pundits appear likeable sorts, Atherton & Nasser to name a couple. Michael Vaughan however, comes across as a prime bellend.

I’m sure there was a poster on here who knew someone who was seriously injured in the Manchester Arena bombings. He tried to cheer the victim up by getting celebs on what was Twitter to tweet her, many did but Vaughan wanted paying to do it the arrogant twat. As the England captain who regained the Ashes after the best part of 20 years Vaughan should be a legend of English cricket but he’s not because he’s a total see you next Tuesday.

The thing with Brook is that he can play sensibly, where he lets himself down is that once he starts a counter-attack he can't 'gear down' again. When he came in I thought it was right to try to smack a few quick runs and get them bowling a little more defensive before the sun set but he only needed a couple of overs of it and then his job was to settle in and bat out the session. Putting Stokes in a position of having to see out 6-7 overs just as it was getting twilight was just really poor. Only mtched by Stokes then having a rush of blood himself and trying to force a run that wasn't there, I think the Stokes one was even worse and you could see he knew how much he'd fucked up.

It's 100% the latter for me, he's done it since he first broke into the Yorkshire team.

Then I’d send him back to Yorkshire until he learns how to be less impulsive.

He’s capable of overtaking Joe Root as the leading English test cricket run scorer but until he conquers the mental side of the game he will continue to frustrate.

I can see a future where he leaves test cricket to reap the franchise dollar.

Brook has so much talent - just almost seems to believe his own hype.  At Edbaston last year he played second fiddle to Smith and showed a much more measured innings IMO.  If we could see that a little more often he would become world class.  Big players score the runs when it really matters, and play the sitatuon - look at root - basically batted the whole day.  When Brook went in there was plenty to work with but he gave away his wicket in a game which if, rightly or wrong, the knifes will be well and truely out.
