Must admit that I hadn't really looked at the England squad going over to Ireland for the T20's, but when I saw Bethell was captaining it, I thought it must have been very much a development squad.

Just seen the team and it's not far off thie side that played against South Africa!!  Not sure how they came to that decision about Bethell seeing who is playing in it.

I think they're clearly grooming him to become VC soon given he's almost inevitably going to replace Pope.

They’ve included him in the senior leadership team pretty much from the start. They’ve presumably identified him as a potential future England captain and a pretty meaningless IT20 series against Ireland at the back end of the season is a good time to see what he’s like as a leader.

Chris Woakes can look back on an impressive England career. An Ashes winner, an Ashes man of the series award and two white ball World Cup winners medals. If his test career hadn’t coincided with two of the best bowlers that we have ever had in Jimmy and Broady then he’d easily have reached 350 test wickets. In home conditions he was fantastic.

Hear!  Hear!  A fantastic international career with some great achievements (being on both Honours Boards at Lord's to add to the list above!).  As you say, his international career was probably somewhat hampered by Jimmy Anderson's longevity, especially as Woakes is an opening bowler who was best with the new ball.  I think the fact that he often didn't take the new ball in away tests meant his away record wasn't as good as it might have been.

I hope he was spoken to before Rob Key effectively announced the end of his international career in the media, as he didn't deserve that.  Hope to see him action for the Bears for a few years to come!!

Well, this has been a fairly catastrophic start to the England innings in the Women's World Cup semi.

Seems like a classic case of scoreboard pressure to me, it's the first time all tournament that we've been asked to chase a meaningful target and the pressure has got to the team.
