Sadly that looks like Woakes is done.

Yes it looked like he’s dislocated his shoulder which presumably means he’s unlikely to be fit for the Ashes.

Even though India are 6 down we have bowled some real pies today. Atkinson has been excellent but the rest seemed to have left their bowling radar in the dressing room. I really don’t understand why they like Overton and Tongue’s figures flatter him.

Woakes injury probably means that we will struggle to bowl India out twice in the last test match of the summer.

Suspect that will be the last we see of Woakes bowling for England. He won't to Australia and is clearly on the decline as a bowler so unlikely to be in their thoughts next summer.

Atkinson aside, it's been yet another poor bowling performance from England this summer. Overton is nowhere near test standard, Tongue I suspect got his two wickets because as a batsman it's next to impossible to account for a decent ball when he is spraying it absolutely everywhere, and Woakes has been generally unthreatening.

Atkinson has been good.

Injury in this test aside it’s too soon to write Woakes off. He’s not bowled poorly and like the rest of the attack he’s struggled on the bone dry pitches that are comparable to subcontinental pitches. If he’s fit he will be back.

As much as I love Woakes, he's 37 next year. I'd prefer to see him turning out for the Bears for a couple of seasons before he retires.

Would be surprised. He had ideal conditions today and barely threatened. I think he's on the decline as a bowler. He'd still be decent in county cricket though.

He did ok, he was, as he has been all summer, very unlucky. With the recent retirements of Broad and Anderson the attack minus Woakes looks too inexperienced at test level so I’d be surprised if they let another 190-odd wicket test bowler retire, injury permitting. Ideally Archer and Wood would form a potent combination but so far they haven’t played together all that much.

I think Woakes has bowled nicely enough this series, but I do wonder if he’s a bit like Jimmy at the end of his England career - still very tidy, but had lost just a bit of nip and as a consequence less of a threat. Might pick up the odd wicket here or there, and won’t go for many runs, but isn’t going to run through a side.

I may be entirely wrong, but it’s a sense I get.

Tongue has been really poor and continuing to spray it everywhere this morning.

All out, India lost 4 for 20 this morning and Atkinson really deserved his 5-fer

Atkinson has been good. Woakes a bit unthreatening considering how ideal conditions are for him. Tongue and Overton look all over the place.

Really shouldn't be letting a team get more than 200 in these conditions so whatever is left to play today is big

200 felt too low to me when you posted this yesterday, and then especially so after the rain delays and Woakes injury, but I thought 250-260 would be good. Turns out if Tongue and Overton had been a little more accurate we'd have got them well within your target.
