Honestly, we have a fantastic manager and a brilliant captain.  Both perfect for the Aston Villa I recognise.  Long may he lead the team out.

Provided McGinn features in the Europa League fixture against Maccabi Tel Aviv on Thursday, he will reach 300 Villa appearances, level with Vic Crowe as the 16th-most any player has achieved in the club’s history. He could climb into the top 10 by the conclusion of the campaign.
Nope. I would like to see the Athletics’ working out there. Unless I’ve lost my mind, the current 35 members of the 300+ club (league & cup) consists of:
660 apps - CA Aitken
531 apps - WH Walker
526 apps - GS Cowans
475 apps - A Evans
474 apps - JW Bache
460 apps - NP Spink

440 apps - G Barry
430 apps - JT Dixon
406 apps - DG Mortimer
400 apps - W George
392 apps - WE Houghton
391 apps - GI Agbonlahor
390 apps - AR Dorrell
390 apps - RE York
372 apps - H Hampton
368 apps - T Mort
353 apps - Jas Cowan

This is good news, he's really shown leadership. I feel he's much better in the middle but it seems he's happy to do a job anywhere. A top pro.

Another good interview with him here: Glad he's sticking around a while longer yet.

The only good thing was taking the captaincy from Mings and giving it to McGinn probably accelerated the departure of Stevie Me and to a time when Emery was willing to make a move. However it is McGinn's willingness to take on the ideas of Emery and to do stuff like hire his own chef / do his own fitness regime during off-season that has meant he stays on as Captain.

Signing Kamara and Digne hasn't gone too badly either.

Ok, apart from making Mcginn captain and signing Kamara and Digne, what has Gerrard ever done for us?

He did well enough in his first season (may well have kept us up) and then badly enough in his second, for the timing to be perfect to get SUE in. Thank you, Stevie!

That was a great read. It just sounded as though he was talking to me again in the pub in London after the Spurs game (see above). It's just brilliant that there are still a number of 'feet-on-the-ground' guys like him. I understand how difficult that must be to do when you are within the rich and coddled life of a successful footballer. I imagine his mate McTominay is cast in a similar vein. Great bloke.

Seriously, he found a chef from Coventry?  Steer clear of the mushrooms!
