Makes sense with less than 2 years left. As long as it's not a stupid one.

Here is a bloke who will go down as a true Villa legend.
He just needs to lift a trophy for us to cap it.

Totally agree on both points

Its as simple as he plays well - Villa play well

Well deserved, villa legend. For him to lift a trophy with us as skipper, may be up there with my favourite ever villa moments. Hope it happens

Good news. As long as his arse and heart still work, he's an asset to us.
Do we any other key players with less than 2 years left on their deals?

Mings and Digne both signed deals on reduced terms so they could stay longer.  Hopefully SJM does similar as it would add to his 'legend' status.

Happy Birthday John! Think it's Tony Daley's birthday too.

Footballers always get reduced terms once they're past a certain point in their career. SJM is 31. If he were 25 he'd be picking up way more than he will do in his next deal.

Deserved a bump up. He was great again today, in the refs ear on and off the pitch.

Is that the first time he has played the full 90 this season?

Another two years with us and will easily be able to do three seasons with Celtic after that. Great lad and a great captain.

He is, and will be, a club legend. I thought he was gone at the end of the Gerrard era, but he’s been brilliant throughout Unai’s time. The absolute epitome of a player to lead by example.
