I love that he's doing the journey with us. Championship to Champions League.

Although Mings being captain-not-captain in reminding McGinn about Hause during the speech*. Having both on the pitch again will do wonders for on-pitch leadership although others are also stepping up like Watkins and Bailey.

I was flying up to Glasgow on Easyjet on the weekend after the Queen had died (when the fixtures were cancelled) and SJM was there, popping up to Clydebank to visit the family. Chatted with him for about twenty minutes before boarding and he was as you'd expect, friendly, relaxed and engaging. Had time for everyone. He emphasised how much it meant to the squad when they met the 1982 European Cup winners and said everyone was pretty overawed.

I would state that at some point we would out grow him, but he seems to raise his level to match where the club needs it to be. Some European midfielder won't know what has hit them, but will have nightmares of two globes clad in white material when they sleep at night.

There's not many clubs in the Prem' who wouldn't want SJM in their team, if he keeps fit and clear of injuries he has another 4 years in him at this level.

Wonder if he'll get to 10 years with us. Be nice to have someone do it properly, ie by deserving to and playing well, rather than just hanging round, getting fat and collecting his wages for doing fuck all like Agbonlahor.

He's certainly come a long way from the "fat knacker" dying days under Gerrrard whose "no ketchup in the canteen" seemed to be the height of his fitness policy!

Would you say mcginns close to legend status here?

He has been here almost 6 years already

I think he’s a club legend now. Bought for peanuts in the Championship. Scored the goal to get us promoted. Big part in keeping us up and now captained us to the champions league.

Usually, you’d want a legend to have won something, but I think he’s an exception to that. And he still might anyway.

Add in the down to earth/humble/loveable personality and he ensures our Scottish roots/quota. Happy Days.

Not sure where Unai’s statue would go, but if we keep progressing at this rate the Scot’s might be a bit over represente in Bronze. (That would require a lot more, no need to bite)

Think he has surpassed Gareth Barry in that X1 of last 30 years. McGinn is a Villa legend.
