It's so good to see McGinn back to his best. An absolute battler in midfield.

Think it's a testament to how much him and Luiz have improved in general recently to see how dominant they were as a midfield two today.

I still think there's more to come from Dougie. He has the talent, he's still young, I'd love to see him dominating the midfield. It's certainly within his capacity. I still think he cruises through games but there most certainly has a recent, big improvement. I guess it's up to him just how far he wants to develop. Love him but I know he can step up another gear.

He was really shit for a fair while under Gerard, as was a few others, so something is telling me it may not have been the players for the lack of form which was very evident.

Thinking back a bit, I picture him dallying on the ball and getting mugged or trying a pass that isn't on, the product of muddled thinking. That's gone and the player can show his qualities.

It was quite painful to see a player who was so adored by so many of us play so poorly.

I’m now pretty convinced Gerard picked a team and a formation and basically sent them out and hoped for the best, very much the same way my old football manager did when I was a kid.

Yep, isn't it funny that a player with a clear direction and coaching can actually do a good job.

The players obviously know where they are supposed to be, but not only that, their teammates too. Perhaps our recruitment hasn't been all bad.

Absolutely, and it will come with having JJ improve, Kamara develop and better players around him. Today he glided around the pitch and through Bournemouth. But it was Bournemouth and not Arsenal or Man City. He can still improve

He was superb today and he's been decent since Emery came in. And to think some used to call him shit and fat.
We were shit and crap; he was shit and fat. And this was expressed by people. Now we're not; he's not, and people are expressing that. To think people have a range of opinions and emotions that vary over time according to a given situation, moment or context. Tsk!

Let's be honest, he was woeful for a while. He wasnt the Mcginn we were used to, whether that was down to tactics, him playing too deep, out of position, the furore of the captaincy weighing on him a little bit or maybe a combination of all these but he's been a cracking signing for us and has more than played his part in getting us back to where we are. No player is beyond criticism obviously but I thought he deserved better than being called a fat fuck and fat bastard. Just my opinion and I'll leave it there.

There was one game towards the end of Gerrard's tenure (Chelsea possibly) when McGinn got a sound booing when he came off, and the match going fans had clearly turned on him. I didn't think he deserved that either, but football's a game that brings out people's emotions. Give me that over the sanitised crowd you get at rugby any day though.

Maybe his opponents can help him pick up a bit of the language?

 53 caps, 16 goals.
Just under 1 in 3.

If he did that in the Leagues he'd have 11 in a season!
