I think in time unless we break into the top 6 the pressure to really go for it will be too much for him and Tyrone. I think jack will be our Matt tiss

Maybe you are right, but with the personalities these guys seem to have, the progress they’ve made together, the joyous way we came up and *they* were both so pivotal in making history, excelling for club and country, both so loved, the unadulterated fun they seem to have had at times, John being mates with Jack, I think we’ve got the best chance for that extra bit of loyalty.
Of course I’ll always be the naive optimist, but I think I can judge a character too and I don’t think they’ll be off at the first sniff, and we certainly don’t need to let them go.

And it’s so damn good to be able to type that, to believe it even if I’m wrong. We’ve had our share of those not delivering or even trying, but it’s just wondeful to have multiple players we love.

It's been a long long time since we've loved players, great isn't it?

What an excellent point - we really do seem to have "our" club back and the players seem to be every bit a part of that

Long may it continue

In terms of value and impact, Villa's best signing since...? I'm struggling to think.  Maybe Barry?

Barry didn't make an 'instant' impact as he was a kid.  McGinn certainly has.  I'm thinking maybe Dublin?

Bent made quite an impact after signing, scoring goals pretty much straight away.

Bent cost the best part of £20m... and you are correct about Barry of course, Dave, his impact was longer term.

I have always thought in my time supporting the greatest team in the world that the signing of Ray Graydon had the most impact. A part exchange deal involving Brian Godfrey seemed to me to be the catalyst in the revival of Villas fortunes from the dark days of Div 3.

Maybe John Carew - a simple swap for Milan Baros & an instant hero.

David Platt, or maybe even Peter Withe.

YES Dave!!  Platt! This is exactly the sort of impact I was trying to pin down.  However didn't he cost something in the region of £250k? Which for the time was a substantial transfer fee.  This signing is incredible when you consider the price tag he was wearing on arrival, it is as if we have signed the footballing equivalent of Paddington Bear!

SGT signed Platt for £200000 which was probably a bit more than he wanted because Steve Harrison, who had been assistant manager at Villa but had left to take over at Watford (and had scouted Platt with SGT) offered £150000.

Why would McGinn want to drop down the table by signing for Man U?

For the Michelin starred restaurant in Manchester.

FIFY. They’ve got one at last.
