He's going nowhere or I'm burning down the stadium.

Thou I dont know as many Villa players as our older posters on here , to me he has got to be in my top 5 best value for money player in my time . I look at the likes of Platt , God Mcgrath and Dwight Yorke for me as value for money , not including any of our own youth players.  But SJM has to be in my top 5 already .

Whatever the outcome of our season, that has to be a standout moment.  Imagine being a defender that late in the game and having to chase that.  Definitely heading towards Des Bremner status, in fact on second thoughts he's probably attained it.
Seconded, do you think we will hang onto him for next season or given the clubs philosophy changes of increasing value of assets to sell for profit, we’ll sell ?

I think CD has answered that one Daz.  SJM has a substantial contract and my gut feeling is that he'll be here for at least another year regardless.

How many yellows is he on now?

15 and that's a 3 match ban which is a worry as he got to 10 yellows about two months ago. I imagine it will continue in play offs if we make it.

He's on 12 according to Whoscored.com

Play-off games won't count towards the count (although presumably would towards any ban). The 15 cards limit is until the end of the season.

FA website clicky.

So he can't get booked more than twice in the last 6 league games. If he does pick up 2 yellows in the next 4 I think he'd have to be rested for the last 2 games !

Those names mentioned produced quality performances when we were up towards the top end of the top flight, so I wouldn't get too carried away just yet!!  One thing I have noticed about McGinn this season though is how good he is at getting his backside into players and rolling them.  He does it really well and gets out of tight areas.

Ah good to know play offs don't count.

Would certainly rest him if he's on 14 yellows going into last game!

Are you 100% sure playoffs don't count? I hope they don't and was looking into this a few weeks ago but couldn't find anything stated specifically...it just sounds like it might do because of reference to "end of season" and yellow cards being competition format specific.

He can't accumulate further bookings during the three play-off games, it's explicit about that. Where we all seem to be finding it a bit opaque is whether or not the play-offs constitute a separate competition. I'm going with, they don't. I think if he picks up a fifteenth against Norwich, he's illegible for the play-offs.

Yes from reading what is produced on FA website, he's on 14 yellows and gets booked v Norwich he'd miss play off campaign. 14 and booked v Leeds and he'd miss final game and the two legs in semi final but would be available for possible final.

14 and once in the play offs and he gets booked he'd be available for the next game.

Ok for clarity, if SJM receives 3 more bookings before the end of the Norwich game then he will be banned for 3 games and miss the playoffs.

It's poorly worded but the following part of the FA link states that cumulative bookings do not apply in play off games:

Quote
Number of cautions    Cut-off date [inclusive]
Five [Premier League]    Following 19 league fixtures
Five [EFL]    Following 19 league fixtures
Five [National League]    Following 23 league fixtures
10 [Premier League    Following 32 league fixtures
10 [EFL]    Following 37 league fixtures
10 [National League]    Following 37 league fixtures
15 [All leagues]    *End of the season**
The remaining competitions will carry suspensions in those competitions only when a player has received two yellow cards in that competition.
N.B. Discipline in the EFL Trophy is competition specific and remains unchanged from last season.
* The FA Women’s Super League does not have cut-off dates. Automatic suspensions for players accumulating 5, 10, 15 cautions etc. will take effect at any stage during the season.
** This does not apply to play-off matches.

We'll need him in all 3 playoff games, so if he gets to 14 yellow cards then he needs to be rested.

My opinion is that he needs to be rested for the lesser games (as in tonight).
Just can't risk him
