He was great but the way the game went first half I think having Whelan on helped us. He did well until those 3 shit passes.  Then once their "pashun" had gone we brought on SJM and it was game over.

Should've started.

That said at least he'll be very fresh for Wednesday now.

Excellent player. He's one that will do well in the top flight too. Rarely wastes the ball, full of energy, always aware of what's going on. Quality. An absolute bargain.

I thought he ran the show and perhaps was the reason Jack suddenly found a bit of space when SJM came on.  If we can find that tough nut to play behind him and Jack, we will be great next season.

I thought the way in which he strode right into that game, from the moment he took the field, was hugely impressive.  He surely does remind me of Alex Cropley.

Game changed when SJM came on.

Yep. And, I’d go as far to say that his 2 week ban has helped us for the run in.

we've been saying all season that Smith has no other choice but to keep playing Whelan and Hourihane whether they have been good or bad

well he did have a choice yesterday and he preferred Whelan and Hourihane over Mcginn,
think about that

we won the the game so it papered over the cracks of a terrible decision
there was no technical genius substitutions going on just a putting on the second best midfielder we have at the club with the obvious conclusions

we played over an hour with a shit midfield bested by Blues until he made the change we should have started with
I bet there's not many who want him to put McGinn on the bench for Forest

if this is the new dawn under Smith he's not going to get away with making stupid decisions like that when he has a big call to make

great win in the end because he did what was blatantly obvious but I've lost a lot of confidence in Smith making the right judgement call in the future, honestly thought he was better than that

can you imagine what McGinn must have felt like after being probably the most consistent player we have had this season
I can't count how many match threads have said 'midfield shit again apart from McGinn' and there he is playing second fiddle to an ageing Whelan passing the ball to the crowd for an hour in a massive game for us as well as a local derby

unbeleivably bad judgment call from Smith imo

I'm not going to knock his decision to start Whelan. It sends a good message; you play well, you keep the shirt.

I have to disagree John, a manager has to demonstrate that if you put in a good performance then you get picked for the next game. Having the benefit of a class act as McGinn to come on as a substitute, if the performance wasn't up to the previous standard, is what good man management is all about.

The way the game went it was the right decision. McGinn can be a bit erratic challenges wise which is why he was suspended. Him in the first half woudnt have helped imo. As soon as the 'pashun' was over he came on and we won the game and even then he still managed to be booked again despite only playing half an hour in a calmer game.

Agree 100% with John it was a very poor decision to leave McGinn out. I take it nobody wants him to start on the bench on Wednesday.

It was the right decision and we won!
