I was a fan of Wee John for a long time but this is what I think now.

He's been poor for so long now. Overall his time and the transfer has been a success but the longer this goes on the worse fans will feel toward him.

Ask Celtic for £5m and let him go there.

He's really out of form right now, and I hope he turns that around.
The bigger question is whether or not he's good enough when he's on form.
Last season's stats had him placed really high in the whole division for tackles etc, I posted those stats a while back. That to me shows he's a good player; the main issue is his distribution and retention of the ball.

He has a specific skill set, gets stuck in and is an asset when he's on his game. Personally, I think it's too soon to write him off, even though I understand why many have. Gut feeling is that he got lost in Gerrard's system, and the captaincy did him no favours,i don't think he's the cleverest player either a d you can see him looking lost right now.
With Emery and his new team in place, I like to think they will focus on what's needed and that we'll see a big reset and upturn in form after the World Cup. If we don't, then perhaps in the summer it's time to move on, or accept being a squad player.

Kamara was number one in the Premier League for tackles before his injury. The big plus with him though is that he can pass the ball, and looks like he's got a hell of a lot of potential. Dendoncker is also a better tackler and a better passer of the ball. I think that in the two players I've mentioned, plus Luiz, Ramsey and Buendia, we have better options all round than McGinn. He's not very good at any one aspect of the game and the others are all better at specific things, eg Ramsey at running with the ball and scoring, Buendia at spotting 30 yard passes etc, Luiz at keeping things ticking over.

I was surprised Sanson didn't get on the pitch at around 65 minutes last night: from the little we've seen, he looks like a footballing McGinn.

McGinn has a role. For me it's playing off a striker and initiating a high press, something I'm sure we'll see Emery try in the second half of the season. He can be terrific on his day, but his use of the ball over the last 18 months or more now has been dire.

Emery wants us to keep possession of the ball hence playing it out from the back seemingly at all costs, playing McGinn is counter productive to that.  He offers us something in an old school midfield role kind of way which might come in handy now and then. Squad player now or offload in Jan at the right price.

He just has no idea how to play with tempo anymore. Every time the ball comes to him, he wants to shield off the nearest player with his backside and peel off of him to create the space. When really, he can just play a 3yd pass to JJ or Emi. He doesn't seem to "get it". The amount of attention Joe use to command would leave him with plenty of time and space.. not the case anymore. Its a shame, but I have no idea how he fits into this team when Kamara and Doug are showing that they're up for it and JJ, Leon and Ollie have the ability to get forward and create.

We should hold our nerve and get a decent sum for him. He is still admired around the league because they don't see him day in and day out.

Part of the reason Mings lost it in my view is that he was top of the Yellow Card list last season (and his partner Konsa top of the Red Card list.)

We've all seen McGinn on his best day, and worryingly through the first third of the season he has been absolutely abysmal. We say his best position is a more advanced role as seen with Scotland, but all of the statistics provided above seem to suggest he's better defensively. At the moment, neither are true. He's not drawing the fouls that he used to, he's been irresponsible with the ball at his feet and he has been anonymous in the final third.

The club has to consider his current value and determine if that value will either continue to rise or begin to plateau and decrease. We cannot keep letting players leave for nothing or push them out of the setup with loan to buy deal at foreign clubs. If a decent offer comes in, it should absolutely be considered. His form is his responsibility.

Obviously that there is a difference between the Scotland squad and the Brazil one.

Would you want us to pay £5m for one of San Marino's midfielders, just on the basis they are an international? That's what you're suggesting.
