Hasn't played well since the Championship I was a fan of Wee John for a long time but this is what I think now. He's been poor for so long now. Overall his time and the transfer has been a success but the longer this goes on the worse fans will feel toward him.Ask Celtic for £5m and let him go there.

Quote from: Drummond on November 11, 2022, 10:34:22 AMHe's really out of form right now, and I hope he turns that around. The bigger question is whether or not he's good enough when he's on form.Last season's stats had him placed really high in the whole division for tackles etc, I posted those stats a while back. That to me shows he's a good player; the main issue is his distribution and retention of the ball. He has a specific skill set, gets stuck in and is an asset when he's on his game. Personally, I think it's too soon to write him off, even though I understand why many have. Gut feeling is that he got lost in Gerrard's system, and the captaincy did him no favours,i don't think he's the cleverest player either a d you can see him looking lost right now. With Emery and his new team in place, I like to think they will focus on what's needed and that we'll see a big reset and upturn in form after the World Cup. If we don't, then perhaps in the summer it's time to move on, or accept being a squad player. Kamara was number one in the Premier League for tackles before his injury. The big plus with him though is that he can pass the ball, and looks like he's got a hell of a lot of potential. Dendoncker is also a better tackler and a better passer of the ball. I think that in the two players I've mentioned, plus Luiz, Ramsey and Buendia, we have better options all round than McGinn. He's not very good at any one aspect of the game and the others are all better at specific things, eg Ramsey at running with the ball and scoring, Buendia at spotting 30 yard passes etc, Luiz at keeping things ticking over.

He's worth a fiver for the comedy show though.McGinn has a role. For me it's playing off a striker and initiating a high press, something I'm sure we'll see Emery try in the second half of the season. He can be terrific on his day, but his use of the ball over the last 18 months or more now has been dire.
McGinn's stats are pretty damn good though, regardless of what people may feel they see. From one-versus-oneHe has scored 3 times after 38 match days in the season 2021/2022. This makes him the number 102 scorer in the Premier League so far. His conversion rate for shots to goals is 37.John McGinn has 4 assists after 38 match days in the season 2021/2022. With these statistics he ranks number 41 in the Premier League. He also has a total of 26 chances created. With these statistics he ranks number 36 in the Premier League. In season 2021/2022. He has won 57 aerial duels and 176 tackles. On top of this he made a total of 14 blocks. Based on these statistics after match day 38 he ranks on number 2 in the Premier League. He is a Midfielder - Right central in Aston Villa. Within his team of Aston Villa he is currently ranked 1 best player of his team based on our 1vs1 Index Aston Villa.Also.... McGinn won more tackles than any other Premier League player last season and won more fouls than anyone else bar Zaha. He was the 20th biggest threat going forwards too.In summary he's an all-round player with a great attitude.Part of the reason Mings lost it in my view is that he was top of the Yellow Card list last season (and his partner Konsa top of the Red Card list.)

These are last season's stats, under Gerrard, one of the worst managers we've ever had. Though for some reason, the people who defended Gerrard to the hilt want to have a go at McGinn. The stats suggest he's great defensively, and not bad going forward, when he's playing well. And as has been said he's woefully out of form, but that doesn't make him shit forever.

There'd be a queue a mile long if we only wanted £5m for him.
The answer is not 'let Celtic have him for £5m'.
