The answer is not 'let Celtic have him for £5m'.

So would you want us to sign him, and if so, for how much?

I've always liked him, so yes. As for how much, well I dont think £20m is unreasonable. I think we would easily fetch near to that.

Terrible player.

Please sell. Hasn't played well since the Championship :D

I was a fan of Wee John for a long time but this is what I think now.

He's been poor for so long now. Overall his time and the transfer has been a success but the longer this goes on the worse fans will feel toward him.

Ask Celtic for £5m and let him go there.

I'm glad your not in charge of our club if you'd sell an international midfielder for £5m. How ridiculous.

He's an international for Scotland. Not Brazil.

What kind of argument is that? There'd be a queue a mile long if we only wanted £5m for him.

Obviously that there is a difference between the Scotland squad and the Brazil one.

Would you want us to pay £5m for one of San Marino's midfielders, just on the basis they are an international? That's what you're suggesting.

I can't think of too many San Marino players in the top league in England can you?

You bought up San Marino, nobody else.

Yes, let's flog a player for £5m because he's out of form. I shouldnt laugh really.

It's no more ludicrous than your suggestion of £20m. I think the realistic amount would be somewhere in the middle.

Because you said international midfielders are worth more than £5m purely due to them being internationals.

I think we'd get more than £10m as well, especially the way transfer prices are nowadays. £20m is not that ludricrous. How much did Morgan Gibbs-White go for again?

£25m plus a load of add ons. Forest were paying silly money for potential though, as Chelsea were when they took Chukwuemeka off us. Older players who are out of favour at their current club tend not to go for as much. See Maupay to Everton for £15m, or Matt Targett to Newcastle for £12m.

He loves Celtic and they love him, but they can't afford more than £5m so do them a favour and let wee John win some cups.

Depends. If somebody else were to offer closer to what he's currently worth (probably £8-12m) then balls to Celtic.

The Villa Podcast did a really good (funny as always) summary SJM yesterday, it very much summed up my feelings. I do love McGinn, that promotion side is one of my favourite Villa sides for a very long time, at least going back to early O’Neil. And in that team there was an axis of four players that were the heartbeat, Grealish, Mings, Abraham and McGinn. I will forever remember games away at Sheffield Wednesday when he was absolutely brilliant.
But he is just not good enough for this level. I think momentum from the promotion run carried him into the premier league and he looked decent for the first couple of months, but apart from the odd game he’s never looked at it since the ankle break. He was like a mad dog on Thursday, stopping round the pitch like a headless chicken, a booking or sending off waiting to happen, he got caught on the ball so many times, the awful cross that went straight out of play, when it was still 2-3 summed it all up.
I really don’t want my memories of SJM tarnished anymore and i think it would be good for all concerned if he was phased out of the team and sold in the summer.

I remember the ankle break and, while I had sympathy for him of course, I didn’t think we’d miss him much as he hadn’t been playing well.

Fair enough, but i thought  he was playing as well as anyone in a struggling side. There was a palpable murmur round the ground that day when he got injured, like a lot of people thought we’d lost an important player. Either way, he’s not good now and shouldn’t be anywhere other than the subs bench and should be moved on sooner rather than later with thanks for the promotion memories.

I was shocked by the actual performance from him,

He went charging at someone and they simply stepped inside him, and out of nowhere the line, "I wonder what Brett Holman's up to these days" crossed my mind.
