McGinn is a good player when he’s on form, which he patently isn’t at the moment. Being dropped isn’t always a negative, it’s a chance to refocus and recalibrate. I think he needs that.

Maybe playing him in his right position might help

The drop off in form does seem to correlate to being pushed back down the pitch.

Yes but would you replace Ramsay, Coutinho or Buendia with him further up the pitch? Maybe against more physical teams he replaces Buendia, but he certainly shouldn't be a nailed on starter there.

No, I wouldn't necessarily, but as much as Buendia and Coutinho are joyful to watch we're losing some of the solidity of shape that marked our earlier performances under Gerrard and we're not pressing as hard.

The lord gives with one hand and takes away with the other.

McGinn is not going to get a "go" as an attacking midfielder with us because the players abovementioned all offer more.

What worries me is his 3 last managers have always stated they loved him and that he was the joker in the pack.
I have always thought he is "undroppable" and all the evidence so far supports that

And he should be faraway from that

If we are to improve then I'm sorry to say we need better than john

I can usually tell within 10 minutes of a game if its going to be a good team performance or not based on how McGinn starts.

Also, while im still in a bit of a shit mood whenever I think of yesterday, can I just bring up that he took one of the worst free kicks I've ever seen in the second half, the one on the halfway line that he played 20 yards on the ground straight to a Newcastle player. I was watching the game in my car on my phone and I headbutted the horn as soon as I saw that.

I also wonder about his physical condition.
Yes, my perception at the Leeds game was that he was carrying a bit extra. It's not much, but at this level and for professional athletes it makes a difference. Maybe the break he was given a couple of weeks ago didn't help.

So not just his performance that was honking.
