It's a catch 22.  He needs games under his belt to get back to his best but he's so far from his best that he was dropped.

Crikey, heard it all now. Bloody hell, of cause SJM is not going to be on pace after a lengthy layoff. It can take weeks of playing to get back to a decent match fitness which is very different to just being fit. If you’ve ever played the game you’d certainly know.

Blimey. I didn't realise we had a professional footballer in our midst.

I'm not arguing whether match fitness is a thing. Of course it is. But no one had any match fitness when this mini season started. That's why the first few games were so poor.

But some of our players have picked up quicker than others. McGinn just doesn't look like himself. He was out injured for less than 3 months and has been back in training for more than 4 months. How long after an injury does he get a free pass for?

He has had a serious injury. You do not become fit overnight. He needs game to get this. The others were playing before lockdown and remained a certain fitness level. It’s not really that hard to understand.

Absolutely awful tonight. Looks fat and unfit, trying to buy a foul time and time again because he had nothing else to offer.

How has he let himself get into that state?  Watched this in a bar in Northampton this evening, and loads of people commented on how lardy he looks.  Unacceptable.

^^ McGinn since the return, in a nutshell.
That's appalling.  Also a little bit hilarious.

He broke a bone, it's a bit tricky to be up to this standard, playing every 2 or 3 days when you've had months out following a broken bone.

I'd be playing Drinkwater instead of him.  I'd be playing Mark Kinsella instead of him.
