I remember losing 1-0 under (I think) Lambert. Sessengson or whatever his name is scored.

Lambert never lost to Sunderland in 5 league games. The 6-1 was a great night. Sessengnon actually got sent off in that one.

Houllier did lose though twice in three months, both 1-0 games. Another reason why it mystifies me why his reign is looked upon with misty eyes.

I remember losing under MON, 1-0 at home, think Chopra scored and it might have been their only away win all season, or at the time.

Completely forgot that result as I was going to post in the last one that MON never lost to Sunderland in the league either. We were unbeaten at Stadium of Light under him anyway.

We've done pretty well against them in the last decade.

Didn't we lose to them at home with Darren Bent scoring the winner - I think it was that match that David Meyler broke his leg really badly too.

It was a particularly dreadful match, IIRC.

Pretty sure we that was the Houllier year (as I think we responded by buying Darren Bent off them).

Phil Bardsley scored the winner that night.

Houllier left the field to chants of "sacked in the morning" from the Holte End.

We were in the bottom 3.

Edit: Steve Bruce was manager of Sunderland and they went sixth after the game but us buying Bent as you say Paulie knackered his time there.

I'm going to this one as I live in Newcastle so I expect a win. I went for a walk on Saturday and the commentary of their game was on the radio - they created so little it was untrue. As soon as Millwall came out in the second half with a higher tempo they had no answer. Millwall must have had 5 or 6 clear chances. If we get the lead early and keep going we should be fine. I recognise what I've said there isn't really our way..

Paulie in 2017: Y'know Houllier was the only Villa manager in recent times you could see was onto something.

Paulie in 2011: That was utterly inept from start to finish.

Just watched the Sunderland - Millwall highlights

Basically Sunderland scored from long range and then Millwall had a success in of half chances from corners, one of which went in and several went close

Those Sunderland fans are prone to leaving the stadium once two down so I hope to see a repeat of that before the hour

The Sunderland keeper looks hopeless too. Reason I'd start Davis, they seemed hopeless defending crosses.

They beat us under Garde, but I struggle to recall anything else since they were last promoted where we've done out but beat them.

Even with 10 men under O'Neill.

Drew 2-2 under Dim Tim idn't we?

Won 4-0. 4 nil up at half time.

We played them off the park in that first half.

It's a decent place to go so it's shame this is midweek game. I'll go 2-0 to us. Grabban with both.

We drew 2-2 at home under Sherwood, or were you only talking about away games?
