That's the most penalty penalty I've ever seen.

Nah, Kenny Burns handled one on the line when we played Forest in the late seventies early eighties, and when I say handled I mean his arm was at right angles to his body as he reached for it!  The only one who thought it wasn't a penalty was the referee.

That was a disgraceful one yesterday mind.

I was bitter about that for weeks. We pummelled them and they broke away and won 1-0. It was a Wednesday night game the year they won the league. Shilton also made a real wonder save from a Mortimer pile driver but probably got less on the ball than Burns had!

Remember that incident really well. How it was never given !

was Grabban left out because he's not match fit?

I witnessed his arrival at Villa Park, missed the car park entrance by 5 yards.

Hopefully not an omen.

Anyone got highlights that include Jack's supposed dive? I was sure it was a penalty.

Apparently it's on the 10min avtv highlights, free on YouTube but I've not seen it yet.

I was bang in line with it a few seats back and it looked nailed on to me. Mind, so did theirs.

It was a clear pen. However Jack is never going to get the benefit f the doubt. He got kicked around during his year on loan at Notts County and the refs seemingly took exception to his lack of strength. He went down 'too easy' and now has a reputation, even though he's never been a diver. So it goes unfortunately.

The first goal was excellent football.

It was brilliant.
Agree

Against Burton Albion.

“I was looking for a goal and then I found a goal, and heaven knows I’m miserable now...”
What difference does it make ?
That joke isn't funny anymore.

Also let's all watch that bit of lovely football and reflect solemnly on ChicagoLion and his hatred of the Bruceball in evidence yesterday.

If you are going to be successful you have to thrash the opposition out of sight by at least three but preferably five goals. Apart from goalless draws against Anderlecht and Arsenal to reach cup finals and against Swindon to gain promotion. Although a one nil win with a scrappy goal can also bring success sometimes. Even two goal defeats aren't always a bad thing.

The latter thanks to Bosic and Middlesvilla - think  we have paid them back though over the years

I'm just happy with the three points we didn't play well but still won which is a good sign.

Agreed. Apart from all three fantastic goals and the move for Jack's booking, the match was as dull as the weather. I'm sure we'll see a much improved performance next weekend.

Dull? Was it? What about Jack's effort off the bar and Hogan and Hourihane's build-up play and shots?

There have been plenty of games where we've done eff-all going forward (Millwall, Brentford, even Bolton at home; Cardiff, Derby away etc.) so it seems strange to hear yesterday wasn't exciting enough for some. We're not exactly renowned entertainers.

Since Agnew has arrived the quality of our football at times has been outstanding. We still slip too much for my liking into comfort food of whack it long because it's the easy way out, or back pass after back pass. But there is no doubt that we have some technically sound players at the club who have demonstrated a greater freedom in their play evidence by the move for the penalty and of course the one that led to Hogan's goal. A nailed on goal of the season contender.

It's the expectation and hope, Eamonn that we're turning into a proper attacking side. It was certainly dull watching us endlessly pass the ball backwards or sideways, especially in the first half.  Like every game in this division it's a battle no matter the opposition but I thought we were really lacking energy and intent for much of the game. On the rare occasion we passed the ball forward we looked dangerous.

The goals were a clear demonstration of what this side are capable of achieving, it was just the other 85 minutes where we were failed to take control of the game. Normally we have one good, one bad half. Saturday was the first time in ages we never really managed one of each. Whilst I've watched the goals numerous times, I won't be in any rush to watching the game again.

I'm afraid that's just the way Bruce sets up his side. The word "adventurous" is not likely ever to be used to describe his style of play.. Thought we were unconvincing and sloppy, while always looking like we had too much for them. A win is a win i guess.
