I was talking about Hull. They have no history or tradition. They'd be better changing their name and having a new start. About 90% of clubs have changed their name at some point. Presumably they all abandoned their "history and tradition" and nobody should support them any more?

Clubs like Villa, Wednesday, Forest, Hotspur, and so on, have interesting names and should keep them. Boring Uniteds, Citys, and Towns should change. The English language has hundreds of thousands of words, there is no need to be so pathetically unoriginal.

No, our ground is synonymous with history and tradition in a way that Hull City aren't. Plus addresses tend to be generic. Most of us live on a Road, Avenue, Street, etc.

The club name is the club's identity. It shouldn't just be boring copycat nonsense. I couldn't tell you, off the top of my head, what colours Exeter City or Torquay United play in, but I can picture Plymouth Argyle. Their decision to not be boring helps them stand out and be memorable.

And 90% of clubs have changed their names anyway. Noone died in the process.

My father was born in Hull and he always says there are three teams in Hull. ..hull Kingston rovers, Hull City and hull. The mention of Hull City changing their name has an 88 year old man going off into a rant that is only usually reserved for poor villa performances.

Yes! They are the textbook example. Used to have an interesting name, Newton Heath Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Institute. Changed it to generic "Nameofcity Tediousname" dullness. Went from interesting (though admittedly horrible) colours to the most boring colours in football. They couldn't even think of a name for the stadium, they had to copy the cricket club!
