No I agree in the main. But we don't care about Gayle as he doesn't play for us. Play him/ don't play him - irrelevant to us. As for your prediction - why do you want us to reply to that? Its a predictions thread and as you've noticed the vast majority think you'll win. No one has posted any enmity towards other posters thinking you'll win. You probably will because you're currently better than us, it's at home and we're on a terrible run.

Yes, there will be enmity from the tiny minority of Villa fans but for a multitude of reasons. You'll also find many more that probably like Newcastle. I find myself as one of them. I couldn't give a shit about the original banner and thought it was crap if truth be told. But by Christ you have whinged on about it. By constantly bringing it up whenever we play you are allowing the media to whip up something that isn't there.

We, the fans, as you do as do all other fans, will jump to defend the 'honour' of their club. As you have post- banner and as we will when you go on about it because you really want to beat us because of it.  But the point from our side of the fence is forget about it. It was a banner and hilarity from our side 8 years ago. If you lot just shrugged it off as typical football fan 'banter' and realised that you were fair game then, and were last season, then this would be parked where it belongs right at the back of the Asda car park with no-one noticing.

But no you can't. Its almost as if you think you should be above being laughed at by a club that just wanted to laugh at a big club going down. It just happened that the big club was you and the club relegating the big club was us.

You don't care if the league's top goalscorer is back? I would. I would care if the opposition's best striker was back from injury for our game.

I didn't say I wanted anyone to reply to my predictions, I said that people have chosen to ignore the rest of the post and only react to the bit where I say that there remains some resentment towards some of your fanbase.

You're fundamentally not getting this; the media bring it up to sell papers/get clicks, which stirs the pot on both sides. You seem to insist that it's only the Newcastle fans who reference this, that's not the case. Villa fans bring up Newcastle fans not letting it go, Newcastle fans bring it up too.

This whole thread has been derailed because I mentioned in passing that Newcastle will be up for the game because there remains some resentment. That should have been that. But some of you are just as precious over those banners as some Newcastle fans are.

I myself think it's all a bit silly and it's a fabricated rivalry that will be forgotten soon enough.

How can it be forgotten? You lot cant forget it, you lot are enraged by it still. The media dont bring it up, we dont bring it up,  you lot do, every time without fail. You came on here and brought it up, not us. You come on here bringing it up and then have the nerve to say its silly and will be forgotten soon enough? We've been saying that for years but here we still are because of you and only you. Its not Villa or the media that cant let the 'incident' go, its Newcastle and soley Newcastle.

I would have signed up to Villatalk as well, but they're less welcoming.

You're not kidding there.

I find it all a bit pathetic this manufactured 'rivalry' between the two clubs. I might have mentioned it a couple of times on here but I love the city of Newcastle, most of my mates are Geordies and they don't give a fuck about Villa until it comes to taking the piss out of me. I shall be turning my phone off once the second goes in on Monday.

I don't think we will win and I think that Henri Lansbury will go down with a 'mystery virus' at the team hotel prior to kick off.

We're in good form, got our top goal scorer back, still harbour resentment towards the behaviour of some of your fans. The crowd will be up for this, as will Gayle. Hayden should be back ahead of Colback.

I'm confident Newcastle will win, but don't think we'll have it all our own way as Bruce has something to prove, your players will want to show they can play well in what is essentially a Premier League fixture and you still have decent players.

2-1 to Newcastle.

Jesus wept

Who would have thought an old bedsheet and a tin of paint from the back of the garage would still be talked about 8 odd years later

;D Do you live under a rock? Birmingham Mail runs stories about the "rivalry", the Evening Chronicle runs stories about the "rivalry", Sky and BBC reference it, talkSport reference it.

Either you're a hermit with a very restricted access to the internet, or you're a big fat fibbing fibster.

You've spent much of this afternoon on here. I think we can tell from that which way this rivalry runs.

You won't find many Birmingham Mail readers on here. They're about as negative about us as you are.

I think I've worked out your angle now, we both know that its pathetic that you can't let it go after almost a decade so you try and fabricate the fact that the media and Villa fans are the ones bringing it up so that it gives you some sort of justification for whining on.

Let it go my friend, it will be theraputic.

Well, in my OP my reference to the "rivalry" was the sum total of 11 words, the replies, as I'm sure you can see, have been far more in-depth in reply.

And given the antagonistic form those replies took, it's reasonable I be allowed the right of reply, no?

I could provide evidence that local media and villa fans bring up this rivalry if you'd like?

"Did you have a good day at work, dear?"

"Yes, dear, I spent the whole afternoon on a Villa forum telling their fans how obsessed they are with the Toon Army."

"And what did they say?"

"I don't know, I didn't read any of their responses properly, I just kept telling them they hate us and then told them they were being sensitive in an attempt to take the moral high ground."

"Did it work?"

"Oh definitely."

"You're so clever, darling".

"Aren't I? Pass me my Jimmy Nail album, I'm gonna have a party!"

Rivalry? You're about 500 miles from Villa Park. Someone took the piss a little bit.

I wonder if he also goes on to Chelsea sites complaining about how they joined in with the Mackems in taking the piss out of the Bestest Fans in the World. Maybe it's more to do with the whole world were laughing at them and not understanding why.

When Newcastle returned from the Championship they beat us 6-0 and you would have thought that would be the end of it, but fuck me, they never know when to let go. I wonder if we had relegated Sunderland instead would the Barcodes have seen the funny side of it. Some how I very much doubt it. They're a weird lot.

This should keep them going for another seven years. Enjoy!

Come on fellas, you're being very unfair.

Say what you like about Newcastle and their fans, but please leave Stotties out of this, they are truly wonderful (really).

You can do whatever you like but if I went on to another club's messageboard and started badmouthing their fans I wouldn't expect them to say "Gosh, you're right". I certainly wouldn't spend hours tying myself in knots with them.

Let's face it wet fish or whatever you're called, you'll probably go up this season barring a miracle, but I bet you'll be back down here again next season, playing us again at this rate and still fucking moaning about how we all had a laugh at your expense.
