Brentford apart, he hasn't got a tune out of his players for ages.  Clearly, the Brentford game was the exception rather than the usual rule of turgid crap.  I want him to do well, but he doesn't seem to draw any consistency from his players.

Another eye wateringly bad episode of Bruceball . One up front , 5ft 4’ Hepburn Murphy - ball lumped toward him as nauseum - no joy .

I think Steve Bruce is a decent likeable man - I just don’t think he is a very good manager .

The football we have served up has been appalling - slow, ponderous rubbish .

Burton moved the ball quicker than we did - looking to turn and play toward our goal as often as possible . We just bugger about , side to side , side to side , then LUMP , for their Centre half to head away . Woeful

And I got a bastard parking ticket !

We need a change of nothing else because many of us have just lost faith but more importantly the players need to hear and do things differently

I wouldn't class Bruce as our worst manager, far from it, but he must be one of the least exciting. It should be brilliant being an Aston Villa fan in a league where we're the big draw. Unfortunately it's as frustrating as it was being lower mid-table in the Premier League. I think I've enjoyed about three games since we were relegated.

OS post-match interview https://twitter.com/AVFCOfficial/status/1034554093241544704

Basically its everyone's fault but his, the team played without zip as he called it, however he only made one sub. Perhaps the reason for that is the players on the bench would have been more pedestrian than the players on the pitch, which again would have been his fault.

Well if anyone should know about being without zip it should be Bruce, who must have burst a few in his time and has surely been exclusively an elasticated waistband man for some years now.

I stand by my view that it was a crass miscalculation by the new owners not to make a clean sweep on their arrival.  They kept a failed manager because it was the lazy, easy thing to do.  Instead of being brave and sending out the message loud and clear that things had changed at Villa Park they sent out the message that nothing had changed.  And it hasn't.  Bruce is still being Bruce.  Bruce is still trousering a colossal wage packet and the Villa can't  beat teams with inferior squads and a fraction of the finance.  We have had some shockingly bad managers post Ellis but Bruce is the worst.
Worse than Lambert McLeish Sherwood ? Come on now Brian that's crap !

I'm with Brian he’s the worst of the lot

Against what level of opposition?

I have just realised I have read this thread backwards for the last 5 pages, very much like the direction we seem to be going.

It's not, those others were at least useless in the top division. Bruce is failing against far inferior opposition, which is a strong argument for him being the worst of the lot.

Agreed.

The Taylor article is a checklist of Bruce's shortcomings.  After 7 years we can tick every box listed except maybe "high tempo" (although to be fair we do that occasionally).  You can just read through it and go "no tactics" - check, "signing players he doesn't know what to do with" - check and so on. The paradox is that in the intervening years he's got Hull promoted twice.  It's pretty much what got him the gig here.  Fuck knows how though - I can only think the standard in the Champo was utter utter shit in those two years.

“All I can say is that we got what we deserved which was nothing.

“The way we played, the way we went about it, was chalk and cheese from what we witnessed on Saturday and the week before that.

“I take the responsibility because I changed the whole team because of the ones who have been knocking down my door - there was their opportunity.

No manager ever got sacked on the basis of a League Cup defeat. However, it’s getting tiresome. Would give him five games and anything less than ten points bye bye (as long as there’s a suitable replacement).

Hopefully his boss will not have to defend him either.

To keep it brief; what a twat.
