I honestly don't know much about hogan but he looks good at getting shots away.

I've seen a bit more of Rhodes and for me he looks like the sort of player that will score goals if you put them on a plate for him but won't create chances from nothing and won't make runs to open space for others.  On top of that I don't like signing players who haven't been playing, it's rare for them to come in and hit the ground running and at this time of the season we need that immediate impact if we're going to spend big money.

Fulham seems the obvious option.  Catalogue of excuses from McCormack, plenty of My Villa Hell pieces in the rags plus they probably still have the money we paid forthe fat gate rattler.

This 'Westy' love-gush is reminiscent of "Good luck, Randy, it just didn't work out. P.S. I loved you once, and we'll always have the mosaic and free coaches to Chelsea..."
It's not a love gush, it's just some people don't feel the need to take classless digs at a player whose only real crime was that he wasn't quite good enough.

Classless? Not so, chrisw1. I rather think you've been Westwinked.

i hate to use the expression but we're going to rip the league a new one if Hogan comes in - maybe not this year, but I wouldn't bet against us next season.

Not really the same are they. A basically decent but not very good player versus an owner who took us down a division through inaction and incompetence.

Yes, brilliant in hindsight as always!
Apparently he has hoodwinked all of our managers also, who have continually played him, as well as Dyche who is prepared to pay £5m for him!

I'd say it was more to do with the club not providing the money for an upgrade more than anything else. Oh and I said he was shit from season one when others were still calling for him for an England call up. Hindsight my arse.

Yeah, because we spent absolutely nothing the summer we sold Benteke and Delph, and we spent absolutely nothing last summer either.

We'll never know for sure why he stayed so long considering how shit he was. It surely couldn't be because of how valuable he was as a player because a blind man could see he was utterly useless. Perhaps we couldn't find anyone so dumb to buy him till now?

Lambert, Sherwood, Garde, Di Matteo were all very decent midfielders, so I think it's perfectly acceptable to trust their ability to judge whether he was in fact a useful midfielder compared to your average fan on a forum, even though their broader managerial abilities were suspect.

We're you glad your trusted their judgement then?

I don't see why you need to be obtuse about this. I don't see how it's unreasonable to say that an accomplished midfielder (which each of those four were) would know what a positive contribution from midfield would look like, and would then be able to assess whether a given midfielder's performance is meeting that standard; and if it isn't, to bomb him out, because not doing so would mean trouble for his own employment status. Plus, this is 4 managers we're talking about, not just one loon.

Only Garde really has the excuse of not having any money to buy an upgrade; Lambert was hamstrung but had enough money here and there, even if it was just to take another punt on a lower-league midfielder, Sherwood had to work with Reilly but he still had enough money to chuck it at the likes of Richards and Gestede; and RDM, let's not go there.

I would add to that Mossy. "and gross financial ineptitude".  My eight year old grandson manages his money better than Randy Lerner does.
